Anyone have pacland schematics???

Anyone have them or do they not exist?

They're up on arcarc, under midway http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Arcade_Bally_Midway/ It looks like a page is missing, says 2 of 3 !

I'm pretty sure I've got a set that are pretty bad even as originals. Might be thinking of Gaplus tho'. I would have to check.

The problem with that board is there are so many customs repairs are tough, if you're unlucky and one of them's a problem it's stripping parts off other boards time.

I have already verified all the customs are good by swapping them over to a known good board. It had one with leg rot but I fixed it and it tests good. Its the one that always has leg rot on these boards, right above the cpu. Anyways, it was just giving me a static vertical grid that covered 1/4 of the screen. I found a bad LS32, replaced it and its trying to boot but its watchdogging.

Is it getting as far as clearing the screen and displaying any of the 3 numbers on during the power up ?

Have you checked the ROMs/EPROMs to make sure they had correct checksums?

Read them repeatedly in the programmer to see if the checksum changes. If it does then replace the bad ROM/EPROM.

Also, have you checked the CPU chip itself?

When it resets, is it the reset line being toggled? If so, maybe the watchdog circuit isn't getting reset or the CPU is going off into never never land.

Yeah, checked all the eproms and they look good. I also swapped in a new cpu.
I finally have some schematics for it so that should help.

The reset on the processor is high and is going low for a second.
Here's a couple screenshots. When it gets to the screen with the numbers it resets. Do the numbers mean anything or is it just random garbage? It says 90 every time.

Yes, it's the self test. Normal operation gives '0 0 0'. Not sure if that's covered in the manual but IIRC, the sequence is, right to left, the result of the RAM, ROM, Custom CPU cus60.

Failure '9' is related to the RAM test of 3L or 3J/3K ( either 3L or 3J/3K will be populated ), they're not socketed on my boards.

So it could be bad RAM, bad address mux at 4J, 5J, bad custom 30 at 3F, bad 245 at 4K
I'd suspect the RAM first.

Thanks James, it was a bad mux at 4J. I was suspecting the 245 @ 4K because I was getting some strange readings with the logic probe. Glad it wasnt a ram cause I dont have those. Are there any common subs for those? I think they were 2148?
Thanks big time for your help, she is back 100% again.
Recap on the repair, first it had a broken pin on custom on 7A(pic attached). Prior to fixing this the board was dead and had a static crosshatch on the left 1/4 of the screen.
With the custom fixed there was no change. Found a bad LS32 @ 5B, that got the boot process started and was getting the error 90 and then resetting. Finally replaced 4J and its working perfectly now.

2149's SRAMs will work in place of the 2148s. Other part #'s are MB8148 and I've got one board with some 6148's. They're common on all of that generation of Namco board, skykid/gaplus/metrocross for either the sprite line buffer or sound RAM.

Great Plains Electronics has the 2149's for a great price too http://www.greatplainselectronics.com/products.asp?cat=22

Looks like my supplier has qty 59 2148 in the warehouse. I will pick them up next time I place an order just to have them on hand.

Since I was in pacland repair mode today I pulled another board off the shelf and fixed it. It was working but had some graphics issues with the moving characters. I found pin 5 on three of the roms were dead. hooked up a jumper from the 4th rom that had activity on pin 5 and it fixed the problem. Broken trace under one of the rom sockets.

Sorry about resurrecting such an old thread, but I've a similar problem with two PacLand PCBs.

They both show two zeros on screen, make the buzz sound, and then, before showing the third number, they reset. The first one makes the buzz complete, the second one resets a little faster, when the buzz is still sounding.

Could someone help me? I've read here about the error codes, but I can't find them anywhere.

Thanks in advance!

I think I found the error codes in one of my manuals. I think you need to find a dedicated manual. The conversion manual is very basic and only covers machine setup, dip settings etc.

Necro bump. This is the exact problem I'm having now that I got it this far. Any one have any ideas ?

I looked through my pictures trying to find the Pac-Land we worked on but I apparently took none...? gamefixer wound up actually fixing it, I want to say there's 74LS245 buffers inline with the 2016/6116 rams that throw the error. I think one of those wound up being bad. I was excited at the prospect of just being done with that game, cause I think the G07 either in that or the Galaga at the time just nuked a new flyback. so try pinging him in the group chat maybe he remembers.

Can you piggyback 245s?
Slicectool says all 245s are okay but they are getting so little exercise before it resets maybe it's missing the failure?

I also have a 174 that's days it's not being used at all so either it's totally dead or that IC isn't being used yet before the reset?
