Anyone have any pictures or links on making a crawl space into a basement.

Next summer I plan to make a portion of my full stand up crawl space into a basement. My house came with 2 plans one with a basement and one without. The new room will be 12' by 25' with 8' cielings. I figured it out and I should be able to fit in a few more games then I have now for an even 30. Best of all no more 15 stairs to go up and down when I switch out games :) One of my friends just finished his and I stopped by to check it out and his was ausome,it even had a bathroom with a urnil. Anyway if anyone has done this befor pictures would be great for ideas.....Thankyou....Dave

I guess you'd have to start out with the foundation. Is your floor finished concrete or dirt in your crawlspace? You'd have to manage that first. Place some moisture barrier on the concrete walls, get a nail gun (i.e., Ramjet-rent or buy one for just a pinch more), start building floating walls, and drywall her up using the "green"/anti-mold drywall. Tape, spackle, and paint. Basically how you finish off any basement. I had no clue how to do any of it, but with a little help from my dad, I added an extra 1000 sq ft of living space. I've got all sorts of step by step photos of me finishing the basement.

I know one of our members - "WU", actually put a basement under his house a couple years ago. - I believe he did a couple like that. I believe they had crawlspaces already - hopefully hell see this and chime in.
The house was "lifted" If I remember correctly.

Yah pictures would be great. I'll get some from my friend when I have time and post a folow up. My headroom is about 8ft allready so I would only be removing 4inches of dirt for the cement floor. I wouldnt be lifting my house a good old pumper truck would work great. Couldnt imagine a 16' cieling that would be ausome.....Later....Dave

I for the life of me can not recall the site so perhaps this is enough to ring some bells. Seems like there was a member a year or so ago that did what you are describing...kind of. I want to say he was finishing his basement and decided it needed more clearance so he dug it out like 12" or 16", poured a floor, reconfigured a staircase, then finished it out.

Anyone else recall this??

hey, if anyone is interested in helping, i could use a couple of hands some weekend to dig out my 4' crawl space into a 7' or 8' space.

i totally need an extra 1500 sf for games. :D

It was Jeff Kinder who dug out his basement to get more head clearance.
