Anyone have a Taito Alpine Ski machine?

Yes. It is one of my 5 favorite arcade games of all time. They used to have one in a supermarket by me and I would hide my mom's coupons for the other store so she would go to this one. It's an awesome game, like most all Taito's. My high is in the 168k range or so on TG settings.

I do.
It's pretty fun, but could get bumped. You're not going to find them easily.

What's up with those TG settings? I think it enables the 'no-collision detection'.

Also SteveW- Does the timer on yours go FASTER each time you get it extended? It's crazy- by the end, it clicks off 1:30 in like three real-time seconds.

I have one and think it is a great game. I had to piece mine together over time. Not an easy game to find a good looking bezel and/or marquee.

Definitely a great game! Used to pump a lot of quarters in the one located at the local Ben Franklin.

I really have to say, but I think Waterski would've been the better game.

...

Ive owned quite a few but havent seen one for years. Dwayne Richard showed me the trick to get 999,999 points on it and ever since then I lost interest in it :(

Yup, Kerry that enables no hit. I just turn that one off and leave all the others the same as TG when I play.

The timer does indeed get insane. I have a 161k video of it on my Jtv channel.

Excuse the poor quality, sometimes the Droid stream is better than others.

Pretty nice Alpine Ski playing.

So the trick is to go fast and not fall down, right?

Kind of like the trick to losing weight is eating less and being more active. Easier said than done.

I guess the programmers back in the day slipped that timer acceleration in there to keep people from owning the game.

This is akin to saying the no firing bees trick makes one lose interest in Galaga

Yeah pretty much. Take the points when you can get them, but finish the course as fast as possible with little to no falls. Keeping the timer in its early loops through is the biggest key as while your score does determine how many "timers" you get, they end up lasting only a few seconds at some point, the timer speed is determined by how many have elapsed.

...

The trick was something like:

everytime to crash you lose points (not sure if its 100 or what), but if you crash yourself several times in a row, the score goes from 0 to 999,xxx

I havent done the trick for 10 years :)

That was a cool video. Love watching people play who have it mastered.

Another thought: every ski resort in the early 80s must've had one of these machines...:D

I have not, but it looks cool. I assume the boat moves on its own and you control the skier in tow?
