Anyone have a source for NOS on this part?

0000 Steel Wool. No scratches.
This. The key to polishing is use the finest grit that will remove the undesired material and then get finer and finer until it shines. I promise you that you can abrasive your way to a mirror finish.

And this might be a terrible idea, but have you considered PlastiDip?

Here's a comparison of the the original part v. Speedway Motors part #91032746

The grip is pretty much the same material, a little thicker. 9.75" diameter versus 10" (original) and looks a little smaller due to the greater thickness of the grip. 5.5 inches deep versus 4.5. Overall pretty close, a casual player wouldn't notice a difference. Cost is $33 so very affordable.

It looks like you found a source for the old part!

Well done!

I wonder if some of the auto customization shops might have some NOS stock?

It's very close, it's not perfect. It's one of those things where I'll fret and worry over the differences for days, then install it, then eventually realize I was being silly. It'll do.

I see so many used wheels around I'm tempted to keep looking for a method to restoring them. While the metal can be resurrected its the rubber wheel that will always show wear even if rejuvenating.

I think the solution is use the new ones, keep a lookout for the 'perfect' used ones, not worry in the meantime.
