Anyone Have a 10 Year Anniversary Or More? Home Arcade Space...

I was just thinking about the time when I sat down and dreamed up Tranquility Base Arcade....and I just realized it was over 10 YEARS AGO! Wow! Time sure does fly. The only thing that puts it in perspective is seeing pictures of my kids when it started and then looking at them today - GEEESH!

Always great to see the creativity in a space when they come to life. But I know sadly some are now gone. Some I was able to visit and some I wished I had.

So I was wondering. Who has rocked their home arcade in the same location for over 10 years and is still enjoying the ride? Over 5 years? Anyone over 20 years? Post your pictures - be proud of your creation!!!

5 years here this month! I was actually thinking about this recently and found some pictures to show the progress over the years. I'll have to add current day in a seperate post, but to think it all started with a poorly done $200 neo geo conversion.

Awesome guys!!! So inspiring to see others still humming along. Jeremy....who can forget your arcade. And Jeff....I remember well when you were building yours....it was one that inspired me to tackle my own. Grantopia....my girls would LOVE all the Star Wars references - do you have a name for your space?

Keep them coming!

I was just talking about this the other day... I invited a co-worker to my arcade party last week, and he asked if it was the 5 year anniversary yet.

It got me thinking about the timeline... I moved into the house in early 2009, and got the walls and paint done by the summer of 2009, and got the carpet and started bringing the games down in the fall/winter of 2009. By late Spring 2010, I got my lights, power, etc. set up... and had a fully functioning arcade (though set up much differently than it currently is). My first arcade party was 8/21/10.

So, I'm at my 7.5 year mark... looking forward to 10 years in spring 2020.

I don't have very many good pics, but here's an old vs. new pic. I've got a bunch more (and a video) on my website: http://www.projectvb.com/arcade/ .

Yeah, but you're at your 16 YEAR ANNIVERSARY on KLOV!

What's the story behind the SW cab table?

Another local collector bought out a huge warehouse a few years ago and there (among other junked cabs) was an empty and trashed star wars cab. He gave me the sides and I was going to use them as wall art but I ended up clear coating the one side and mounting it to the base of an old table we had. It actually has a built in wine rack and drawers so it's great for storing parts I need quick access to.

We were calling it "the rebel base" for a while and had grand plans for star wars font signs and all that but it never really took off unfortunately.

My old arcade space, the original Galaxy Blue, lasted almost exactly 10 years from April 2006 to April 2016. My new space, Galaxy Blue II, which I just opened this past April, is a mere eight months old, but actually much cooler than the original Galaxy Blue, truth be told.

I've been in my current house since 2009 and arrived there with a lone Karate Champ that sat in the garage. My small game room space was used for other things for the first year. I was able to move games into the area in 2010:

After many games through the door, this was a current shot of the same wall a few weeks ago:

So, I just passed 7 years with games in my 11 x 12 area. My small space hasn't gotten any bigger (yet). Hopefully, by 2019 my wishful game room expansion will be complete :fingers crossed:

That is pretty damn awesome! One of a kind.

Cool thread! I love seeing all the pics.

It'll be 11 years for "Zombies Ate My Arcade" in January.

One of the big selling points for me when I bought my house, was the room addition the previous owner had done that had its own AC unit, and French doors that would make it easy to move games in and out.

In 2011, I turned the entrance into a bookcase (complete with motorized books that move), with the game room hiding behind it:

Over the years, my game room has expanded to an additional room upstairs (Room 237), as well as a pirate bar near my kitchen.

The main/original game room downstairs houses 7 pinball machines, and has a horror theme. Here are some recent pics:

Well, I've had Lunar Lander for 33 years now, but I never really thought to have an "anniversary" with it, since I can't remember the actual date I got it. I know it was about a week or so after the fire. Hell, I'm not even sure the original owners know the date of the fire. I suppose I could ask....

Thanks! People seem to dig it when they come over! It checks all the boxes (games, star wars, beer) for me, so it'll be around for a while. I've also got some "you destroyed a star wars?!" comments before, but calling what this came off of a "cabinet" would be a pretty generous description, so we made the best of it!
