Had someone a while back trying to sell be a XMen COTA and a Street Fighter Alpha in a Red Capcom cabinet. Not sure if I have ever seen one. I have seen the blue ones. Didnt know if they were the same except for color.

Might be a Z-back. Prairied and I are pretty hardcore about those cabinets and digging up info about them. Should look like this if it is:

See the "Z" shape to them. The red Z-Backs were definitely utilized by Capcom for a short stint before going with the big blues.

Edit: Talking about the solid red one at the bottom right of TK Monkey's link.

I believe the Z-backs can in red mostly but I have seen some in blue. This is for the one piece design. Actually I don't really like them and prefer HS1 and HS5 cabs more. (I have 2 each of them) I also have been getting keen into this off brand type called Angled Cab that also got produced in red. (I have 3) of these that I got for dirt cheap. They are kinda buttugly but actually good for routes/conversions.

The Zs also came in a two piece design where there is a split on the side. I usually see these in two tones. They soak up water like sponges and basicaly fall apart at the split. AVOID these...

Angled cabs: Are those the z-clones from fresno you're talking about?

Split, are you talking about the one that was used a lot for X-Men: COTA?

Just an update (no one probably cares), it is a Z back. I think he might be the original owner. Same guy I bought my UMK3 from. He used to own an arcade.

Yes a few of us were calling them Z-clones at one point but someone noted that they may have predated the Z's.

I don't know the official word on Z's cause I have seen some with dynamo stickers and some with 3KOAM stickers. It even showed up on the 3KOAM catalog.

Re: Z-Clones -- Yeah! Someone had one of those in the fs section from somewhere way out of state, which made me think maybe they weren't some one-off local cabinet. Neat...and weird.

Umortal: Cool. Did you get it?

I am going to check it out tomorrow. He has a Street Fighter Alpha in the Z cab, and a 2 slot neo geo I am checking out. Also has an XMen COTA board and marquee, and some extra carts for the neo geo. Gonna possibly work out a deal for it all. They have been sitting in the garage for years. He said the same with the UMK3 I bought from him, and that was in great shape.

Not getting my hopes up will I get there. Told myself I need to walk away if I dont feel its a good enough deal. if the cabs are beat up I am not getting them. And I would only get the neo geo ifs its a dedicated and not a conversion. Cant afford the hobby like I use to so I need to be picky.

What are you looking for in a Neo-Geo? I have one that looks really good. It's a 2-slot in this style cabinet: http://www.arcade-museum.com/images/118/118124214121.jpg

It has a 2 slot marquee in it, I had special made since it was orginially a 4-slot. Monitor looks good and has Fatal Fury and (IIRC) Samurai Showdown III. PM me for more details.

Do any of you guys with Z-backs for sale want to sell me a monitor bezel? I'm putting one together and need a black plastic bezel, around 25.5 X 25.5

Not really looking for a neo geo. Just seemed to be a good package deal price the guy is offering. But wouldnt mind one again for the right price

Gotta chime in and say that of all the bigger cabinets I love the Z's they are just balanced perfectly. So much easier to cart around than other 25" cabs.

This is wonderful to hear. I will have one eventually and it's nice to know it won't be quite as hard to wrestle as I was anticipating.

I have a dedicated Z-back cabinet with SF2: Hyperfighting in it. I recently acquired a "big blue" Qsound, which was the larger of the ones that were released, and it was a factory dedicated SFA2 machine. When I purchased it, it had been converted to Marvel Vs Capcom. I applied black vinyl to it, and created what I would imagine the US release of Radiant Silvergun would be like. I posted photos about it here:

I really like the z-back, but my biggest gripe about it is the fact that you can't easily get into the back of the monitor or upper portion of the cabinet from the back. It is stapled and sealed without any access panels. I suppose that the thinking was that if anyone wanted to work on the monitor or get behind it, they would pull the monitor out of the cabinet from the front.

As for the "angle" cabinets that were mentioned, the company (or at least one of the companies) that made these was called Angle Manufacturing located in southern Tennessee. I don't know if they are still in business, but i do know that they evolved into making golden tee cabinets with the monitor "lying back" on them so that you don't jam your fingers into the screen. I think that they called them "lay back" cabinets. I know that the "angle" cabinets were convenient for operators, but the monitors that they shipped them with (which was easily identified by the small diameter solid round tube chassis mount that tied together the tube and the monitor chassis) seemed to have issues. I don't know if these cabinets were called angle cabinets after the manufacturer or by the shape, but i do know that they were also referred to as "drawer" cabinets, as the control panel and jamma board would slide out of the cabinet as a one piece "drawer", and this allowed them to move games around without moving the cabinets. They just slid out the drawer and swapped it out with one from another cabinet...
