Hi guys. I'm not trolling here I'm a big Nintendo fan and a Mario freak. I have a gut feeling that the Wii U is sort of doomed to fail for a few reasons. First of all there calling it the Wii U. Seriously did they not learn anything from parents/uneducated gamers thinking that the 3 ds was just an updated 3ds and not a whole new platform?

Then there's the tablet controller. It seems like a gimmick to me. I guess it could be fun in some respects but I think it's more of a novelty. If it's perceived that way by the public Nintendos gonna have a really big problem. There's also the launch games issue. I remember an article with Reggie Fils-Aime talking about how if they were to launch the 3 ds with big name first party games it would make gamers feel that there was no third party support.

I would say kind of stupidity is part of why the 3 ds is in trouble. If it had been launched with Super Mario land 3d along with a Zelda game and a $200.00 price point things would be very different. I just seems like they got a little two cocky with there massive wii sales. What do you guys think? Have Nintendo learned from there mistakes and does the wii U have a good chance of making it? I would hate to see Nintendo go down the sega road. That would kill a part of me.

Nintendo is in big trouble. The Wii is a novelty gimmick. How many party, sports, carnival games can you possible have for one system? Yes, old people bought into the Wii originially, but the novelty has worn off. The 3DS is another gimmick and a way too expensive one at that. What is this now, the 15th itteration of the DS? The *only* reason they are still afloat is their first pary Mario, Zelda and Metroid (they are killing this one off fast) licenses. I wish they would license them out to Microsoft and Sony so we could have a really good Mario or Zelda game. They need to get into the 90's and not always have the cartoony or even worse, cell shaded graphics. When you can't play any of the top games on their systems...BioShock, COD, Halo, Gears of War, Uncharted, God of War, etc...nothing is going to change. When was the last time you could even play the *real* version of Madden on their systems? I think Nintendo and that Reggie Fils-Aime guy especially, are both very arrogrant and ignorant. If they don't change their ways, I think they are in big trouble, and I don't see them changing.

If Nintendo continue to ignore the online multiplayer experience as well as social networking (I'm talking full blown PSN or XBox Live here, not just multiplayer) they are doomed. Gamers want rewards for playing and the ability to brag to their friends. It's sad but true.

I thought Achievements and Trophies were a joke ... until I got a PS3. Now I can't stop from comparing mine to my online buddies.

If Nintendo can't create a network infrastructure to give gamers that experience, then the only people who will buy the WiiU will be casual players and kids.
And I can't imagine creating such an infrastructure is all that difficult. Apple has done it with their iPhone Game Center.

My real concern is, what happens when little Billy spills Coke on his WiiU tablet? How expensive it that thing going to be to replace?

For the record, I love the Wii but I am not a fan boy nor am I a hater. I see bad things on the horizon for Nintendo.

I kind of feel the same as you rlemmon, but I also felt the same about the original Wii, and that turned out to be a huge success. I think the tablet might be a good thing in some areas and a bad thing in others...

For example: it might be bad because it is a very expensive piece of hardware that little kids will break as they will treat it like a Wii Remote + screen!

It also might be bad because the console can only support one of those tablets, and I think four simultaneous would be a lot better... No secret play selection in football games I guess.

On the upside, I love the way they use it in Golf to see the exact lay of the ball. And I also love the idea of semi-portable gaming. So if someone else wants to use the TV you won't have to quit your game. Heck I could continue my game while taking a restroom break, and that is awesome! :)

So we'll see...

I'm going to hold off on getting a Wii U until they are either very popular (ie good) or are such a joke that I can grab one for $50.

Well the name is terrible. The controller looks interesting but really cant we just get a traditional controller for once? I miss the Snes days. I'm looking forward to Zelda but nothing else really kinda sad.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. The n64 controller always struck me as odd, although I did like the gamecube one.

Question is, are the casual gamers who bought the original Wii, going to upgrade to the WiiU? Is there really a reason for them to do so? Will Nintendo be able to motivate them to do so?

I think the Wii has run its course and they rushed it to that point by allowing so much shovel wear. I think it was a mistake to try and release another updated version... But I don't think it will doom Nintendo by any means.

I have the wii and and it's soft modded and I enjoy it a lot, and I will probably get the wii u I think it will do pretty good but that's just me

I will buy it. I can't explain it, but I've always supported nintendo from the original console. I honestly hope it won't bomb like the virtual boy and the game cube, and I have a good feeling it won't. After the wii, I think nintendo knows how to make a successful console. They could try to do the exact same thing microsoft and sony are doing, and I guarantee it will fail, the wii outsold it's competition because out was completely different. Sony and microsoft scoffed at nintendo for it's motion controls, then once it blew up, they released their own version of the same thing! I will be watching with great interest...

The GameCube was a flop?! I don't remember hearing anything about this! I have a GameCube and have all the resident evil games for it as well as a few others that were good on the cube, I thought it was awesome

I get what you are saying but of course most of the titles you mentioned are exclusive to one platform or another.

I agree Nintendo is on a slippery slope. I wouldn't have a 3DS if I didn't get one for my last birthday. I hope they can pull it around, I really think they need to get back into the hardcore hardware game. The motion controls are fine with me but the new system shouldn't focus on them.

I'm not a fan of the Wii U controller so far, it looks way to cumbersome.

The Gamecube was most definitely NOT a flop. Did it make money for Nintendo? YES.

The name 'Wii' is, in my mind, pretty darn terrible as well, but that didn't stop the thing from selling like mad (according to this link http://www.vgchartz.com/hardware_totals.php the Wii has sold more (worldwide) than every console except the PS1 and PS2.)

It all depends on the games - if they get some games out there that are worth playing, then they can sell a lot of these things. I'm doubtful myself, because I can't see what they are going to do with the tablet that's particularly useful for most games, but I've been wrong before.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Lets not forget the Wii burned allot of people. Sure people bought it in droves I bought one at launch and was pretty much disappointed within a couple months. All the old people I knew bought one for Wii sports that faded fast. Honestly I don't see them getting the casual market with this one. 3ds sales are a good indicator most have grown tired of the dumb gimmicks that don't really bring anything to the table. Especially since they seem keen on relying on old hardware and living in the past.

I hate the Wiimote and cant beilive they are carrying that over to the next console booooooooo!

^^^^THIS. You don't need a Wii U to play the same tired sports, carnival, resort mini games with the same legless Atari graphic characters. I mean honestly, a pixelated tear drop shaped avatar with no legs was *the best* they could do on the Wii for the sports games characters? That's next gen? The motion controller fad is nearing it's end, sure games will still use it, but it is not going to be a system seller anymore. Nintendo needs to find another gimmick and 3D is not it.

It should be noted, I have a Wii too. I bought it for Mario Kart, which I think is one of the best game series out there, but I will not buy a 3DS for Mario Kart and I will not buy a Wii U for Mario Kart either. Those days are over. Mario Kart Double Dash is just as good or better than MK for the Wii, I am not paying anymore money to get the same looking and playing game from system to system. Twilight Princess was the same exact game on the Gamecube and Wii, where is the improvement, the next generation anything? Skyward Sword looks good, but it looks just the same as all the other Zelda games. It comes out right by Skyrim too and when you compare the two, for me, there is no contest on any level, so I won't be buying it. Skyrim is next gen, Skyward Sword is Gamecube rehashed and the Gamecube was an inferior system back when it competed with the PS2 and Xbox.

In terms of taking the world by storm or not being dead last in it's console generation - yea, it was a flop. No one said it didn't make money (I suspect it did), but it was never the big player in it's day. Remember that it was up against the PS2, which was an AMAZING powerhouse of a console (in terms of market penetration), so it's not that it was necessarily a 'bad' console, it just couldn't get any traction. It eventually sold fewer units world-wide than the N64 did.

Had some darned good games, some of which I'm still playing on the Wii (gotta love backwards compatibility that's really compatible!).
