I have, and more than once.

Now question for you, if you have won something on ebay for a penny: Do you agree that sellers have a right to believe you don't expect them to package and ship it without paying some sort of processing fee/consolation fee?

I have two sellers now that were flabbergasted that I expect them to honor a penny auction. Is it unreasonable? I'm just wondering because I can sympathize to a certain degree, but on the other hand, even though starting your auction at a penny is really just a scheme to gin up interest and watchers - if you fail and it sells for a penny....

Am I supposed to fulfill some sort of ethical tip to show gratuity for your time?

What protocol is there for winning a penny auction? I don't want the stuff to show up damaged because the seller is pissed off.

Anyone deal with sellers like this?

If they started the auction at $0.01 and thats what it ended at with no reserve then they need to honor the "contract". End of story. If they didn't want to risk it going for a penny, they should have started it higher or put a reserve on it. Pretty simple!

Its a contract. They have to honor it as a part of the seller agreement.

The penny auction I won, the seller lied and said the item was lost and refunded my shipping back. And then I noticed two weeks later the item was relisted as a Buy it now.

yeah, what they said. If they choose not to sell it, then it's negative feedback time!

I've won many penny auctions... the latest one had $34 shipping, so I didn't feel too bad.

I won a complete (dead) game for $.01 and the seller wouldn't reply to my messages. so I paypal the $.01 just to fuck with them ($.35 fees on a $.01 payment) but also to make sure they couldn't file a NPB to get their fees back.

i won a complete really nice g1 megatron for .01 plus $15 or so in shipping that was spelled "deception leader" with nothing else in the title. it pays to look at everything rather than search for something specific.

I won an auction for about 20 comic books for $.99, I Paypal'd right away, got no response from the seller for 1 week, I emailed him to see if he got payment and shippped, he told me he did but it could take a while as he used "media mail" shipping so I should be patient, waited a month before I contacted him again, he told it might have gotten lost in the mail and he would refund me, waited 2 more weeks and again no response, I sent him another email and told him I still haven't received the item and we are over 2 months from the date the auction closed and when I made payment, I waited another 3-4 weeks (It's not like I was in for a lot of money on this) I had come home from work and saw a package at my door, almost 3 months later I got the comic books, I left him positive feedback on Ebay, he left me feedback saying "Most patient Ebayer evar!"

I think you are suppose to pay another $328.77 for every auction won at $0.01.
I believe this is eBay's rule.
Paypal has their own rule, I believe that one is a lot more, something like $520.03 (give or take a penny).

Yep. Ebay Australia is $657.54 and $1040.06 respectively due to the distance the money has to transfer over ;)

i won a few things for .01. an entire set of atari force comic books,an arcade pcb, a power supply, and there was never an issue. most sellers make money on the shipping!

I sold something on eBay a long time ago for $0.01, and charged actual shipping. Yeah, I lost money on it, but hey, you win some you lose some, part of the risk with selling at auction. You should ask the seller if he refunds the extra money to the buyer when an auction goes for higher than what it's worth.

I wouldnt pay a cent more then what was stated in the auction. If seller wont send negative time totally. i dont start at .01 but pretty much always at .99 and have taken a loss many many times, BUT made some good scratch eh...yep...Maude, eh?

Search "DS Stylus" and check out the folks in Hong Kong selling them for .01.

Yes, I've won some. Yes, they mailed them all the way from hong kong for a penny. Free shipping.

I haven't figured that out yet. Some of them were even Buy it now for a dime, free shipping, from Hong Kong. Took about a week and a half. I've bought several just to watch it all go down, lol. I mean the ebay fees are more than that.

i won a few things on ebay for .99 cents, never a penny though. i rember i won a gas cap for my 71 maverick that in the end i didnt even use but i shined it up and resold it for almost $20+shipping

They should have added any fees in up front. If they are trying to after the fact, that is wrong. If you don't want to sell something for a penny, don't start it out at a penny or make sure it doesn't end at a penny. Plain and simple. They should honor it now, just as they would have if it went for $100.

I won a High Impact Football game in a Gremlin cabinet for .01 cent. Turned out to be a Space Fury originally. Not messing with vectors at the time, I turned it into a nice looking Zaxxon. I bought it from a church youth group so I gave them $20. I just couldn't hand them a penny!

Here's the cheapest BIN one I could find. This is coming from China, free shipping. How in the hell are they making a profit? Tons of them on there right now too, .01 no bids, free shipping.

http://cgi.ebay.com/5-STYLUS-PEN-NI...t=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item2559a4ad58

pretty easy for them to make a profit.

1st these companies get bulk rate shipping deals from whatever shipping companies they use. many U.S. companies do the same. since they ship in major volume they pay pennies on the dollar for small stuff like the stylus pens.

2nd... the pens cost what.....1 cent to make..... maybe.....( remember, this is made in china )
