anyone ever put in a custom light assy in a vending machine before?

The original light assy in my Vendo 165 is starting to act up, and if possible I'd love to just pull the assy and put a generic new one in there. There are 2 wires leading up to the top, supplying 115V of AC voltage. The current assy takes a 20W bulb, but it is also a bit bright when matched up to the games in the garcade, so I'm wondering if maybe putting in an assy with a 15W bulb would be better?

Also, if the replacement assy has 3 wires (as most plug-in items do today), what does one do with the 3rd wire (ground)? Do you just tie it back away from the other 2?

I'd even kicked around the idea of putting an existing Midway arcade assy in there, but once again it has 3 wires on it going to a molex connector so, if I can use one of these just tell me how it would need to be wired up. Thanks!

You can use any generic assembly. Wattage doesn't matter as the new unit will contain it's own ballast and starter. I usually buy a small, single lamp florecent strip. Just tie the ground wire onto the cabinet somewhere.

Excellent, thanks!

I have seen a lot of ads lately for these new led strips that you put in, in place of the original florescent bulb. I am sure they cost more then a bulb but are supposed to save power, give off no heat and last forever. If it is a machine you plan to keep, you might look into it.
