Anyone ever "hated" an arcade game?

I have always loved most arcade games since 1980, but I can remember playing certain ones that I learned to hate:

Asteroids Deluxe- I bombed out of my first year of college no thanks to having Asteroids and Missile Command in the campus game room. My second year of college at another school only had Asteroids Deluxe. I played it expecting to love it, but after trying it a couple times and getting completely robbed, I stormed out of the game room and never went back. This was a blessing..I hated that game with a passion!!

The other was a baseball game from '83 (can't remember the name). It ripped me off so many times I wanted to unleash the fury of a thousand gods upon it. I remember being livid more than once.

Battlezone- I realy loved this game, but eventually, always got owned by the smart bomb. Once, in a blind rage, I completely sheared off the controllers with a haymaker.

I no longer indulge in this behavior!

Which games do you hate/dislike, and why?

Afterburner cockpit.

Worked an Arcade (Challenges) for a couple years, it was ALWAYS breaking, flippin huge and a PITA to fix.

Dragons lair

You never seemed to really play DL, just memorize the play pattern.

Not a classic by any stretch of the imagination but I always hated and still do, Real Ghostbusters. I am a HUGE GB fan, and even loved the cartoon, but man do I hate than damn game. It's definitely designed to eat quarters and deliver a minimum of fun in the process.

Yes there are quite a few that I hate, and would never place a quarter in...

Mr Do
Mr Do's Castle
Ladybug
Elevator action
Mappy
Neo Geo

Tons of Jamma games make the list too...

Damn, I love Mappy! I don't know what it is about that game but I always played it..... come to think of it, it was RIGHT next to Star Wars at Chuck E's and I would play it just to stay close enough to snag SW when the other little puke ran out of tokens.
I did hate Defender and Battlezone but I think now I might actually like them since I have a little skill in my game.

Mappy isnt too bad I guess, its the best game on my hate list .. My 5 year daughter like it..

Most generic fighters in the MK and post MK era. Total button mashing crap.

As for classics from the Golden Age - "Kangaroo" was and is an embarrassing mess. Graphically and gameplay wise the thing is just horrid. Really needed a "jump" button instead of jumping with the stick.

"Galaga" has always bored me to tears, too.

Think that's it, tho.

I couldnt stand Silk Worm. Mostly because of the lame music it played!

Dragon's Lair. Back in '83 it was heralded as the "hot new thing" in videogaming, but I didn't like the lack of interactivity with the game, thought it was more "hype" without the substance, and HATED the fact that it usually cost $.50 to play as opposed to a quarter.

I hate Frogger with a passion. :001_sbiggrin:
I don't know if I even understand the logic myself as to why, but I hate playing it, and hate looking at the cabinet altogether.

Other games I dislike are anything from the classic era that was karate themed...
I never caught the karate fad and rarely wasted quarters on those particular machines.

dont hate the player hate the game!

donkey kong for me. could stay all day on robotron, defender, stargate and many games on a quarter, but for some reason could not do any good on donkey kong arcade at all! now the game is great but i cant play it at all. one day i am gonna make it my goal to tackle it!
