Anyone ever get nervous adjusting a monitor?

My Tempest monitor recently developed a lower than normal shade of purple that really annoyed me and motivated me to adjust it out tonight. I haven't touched the insides of the game for awhile now, and I was actually nervous doing something as simple as a color balance while the game was on. At one point I dropped my tiny screwdriver, which thankfully fell outside of the cab. I'm lucky this post didn't end up in the repair/help section.

I'm a pretty hands on collector, so I don't know, maybe I'm losing it? I rebuilt every part of this Tempest myself, just like all of my games, so I shouldn't be nervous.

Jeez, anyone else care to comment? I think I'm going to just play games for the rest of tonight....

I usually don't worry but with monitors i do try to use plastic adjustment tools so i don't shock myself or short out anything.

hahaha-

This got me the other day- was trying to adjust the width on a 4900. I had a little plastic hex tool, but the placement of it is awkward. The shaft of the tool is right up against the yoke. I came at it from the side and eventually brushed up against some power transistor there on the right side-

I knew I wasn't going to die, but it's always hell to get bit.

Even using a long plastic screwdriver, I had a cracked 6100 flyback nail me when adjusting the HV pot (about 3 years ago). Hurt like shit and I still have a small scar on my hand (either from the lightning or my hand jerking into something). And then a week or two ago a 7400 flyback did the same from a small pinhole. No scar this time.

Still, it doesn't happen often and I'm still alive, so don't worry TOO much.

Besides, I'd guess you were less worried about losing a finger than damaging your Tempest...

In this situation i have the best remedy , it works everytime .

I wear a fully wet tin suit

Half an hour before i swallow 2 Viagras

Then drink a bottle of Jack

Then just jump in the Fukka , shouting " come and get me you unpredictable Whore "

The flyback is the high voltage transformer that generates the 19.5kv (or thereabouts) for the picture tube's second anode (among other things). It's the block with the thick red wire coming out of it that connects to the picture tube with a suction cup. Also known as the LOPT.

Perfect quote right here, yes that was my issue. I don't need to add to the "Broken Tempests" post que. The repair section has at least one on the front page at all times it seems. The game does look tons better now, so I guess the angst was worth it.

I started cursing in mid-air as the very tiny plastic handled screwdriver fell.

No harm done, whew!
