I had a repair done by them and I been trying to get ahold of them for over a week now and no responce.

Alex is top notch, but he has other responsibilities and does take a very long time to respond, repair etc. However, I would highly recommend him.

Current message on his website..

Note: I'm out of the office until March 5th and won't be able to respond to emails on a regular basis during that time. Shipping and receiving will still be taking place, but no diagnostic work or repairs.

Spent $350 on 3 board repairs that took 2 years and still dont work right... Had to send to another repair guy........

Elektron forge repaired my Lunar Lander board a few years ago... and it's still running strong.

Im sure they do great work, but i have a serious gripe with people that run these services and cannot respond timely or do work sporadically. If you are that busy, then you have too much workload, and it doesnt help anyone. Dont run a business or service if you dont have the time to dedicate to it. Just my two cents. I run a full time ebay and arcade repair, and flakiness isnt a good quality online.

Alex is good. I had no problems, he did my Battlezone board when I had it. I hear he's hard to get a hold of some times. Working for NASA keeps him busy.

not knocking him at all. i just got my boardset back and was trying to get it working. hopefully its 100 percent. still waiting for a reply.

If you really want to get him to fix something for you, email him, wait 1 week, email him again, wait 3 days, and email him again. He's very busy and I get the feeling that if he's occupied with other things, 1 email might not get his attention. I've had 2 or 3 things fixed by him. I had a SW with multiple problems. He fixed all of them but it apparently had an intermittent ram problem. I put a new ram chip in it and fixed it the rest of the way. I guess it never acted up when it was at his place. Anyways, short story long, I believe him to be a very capable tech...especially on Space Invaders and Atari Vector games.

Had him repair a GunFight board for me (hard to find anyone to work on B/W games anymore) and it ran great till the day it left. It did take a month or two to get done.

Please don't apply "Fast Food" mentality to board repairs. Many of these guys are "craftsmen" for lack of a better term. Very few of these guys are making their living doing this. It is a hobby or a service they offer to hobbyists. No one ever dropped of a block of marble to Davinci and then wondered why the statue wasn't ready in 15 minutes...

If you are in a hurry for a board repair, use a swap service like Eldorado.

I'm not applying a fast food mentality at all. I run my own local repair service. People like to know what's going on with their stuff, plain and simple. It's not that time consuming to send a quick email. And answering your emails seems like the basic first step to running a business. Sorry but I won't excuse anyone who can't take the time to answer a message. Communication is vital, especially when you are not dealing with someone locally. No one here minds a wait, but having a time frame is important, as well as answering your customers questions in a timely manner.

I agree with everything you have said. I just cut guys in this hobby a bit more slack than most as they are just games after all. If they were a business for me, I would make sure I worked with someone who kept their repair/shipping times to a minimum. Since I am a hobbyist, as long as I am confident my stuff didn't disappear.... I am fine with a long wait.

And thanks for not ripping on Alex and posting as a legitimate question. My post was more directed at the guys who normally "dog-pile" on this kind of thread.

I once promised a guy a free transformer (shipped at my cost) on a Saturday. On Monday morning my HOME PHONE rang (it was a federal holiday so I was home) with the guy demanding to know where the package was. He explained he wanted to make sure he wasn't getting "ripped-off" on a FREE transformer that I WAS PAYING THE SHIPPING ON!

You should have sent him an exploding dye pack at that point.
