I left my games running all night long in the garage. I guess I forgot to turn them off before I went to bed. First time I've ever done it.

All of them seemed to fair the cold night (couldn't have been anymore than 40 degrees out there all night long). Only one looked funny this morning, and that was my K7400 monitor. I should have taken a picture of it, but didn't think of it at the time. The screen was nearly white as if the flyback and brightness were turned way up. This has been a trouble monitor for me since I got it, even though I just got a replacement chassis.

You guys think all that cold somehow affected the tube? I plan on turning it back on in the afternoon and adjusting if necessary?

Anyone else ever forget to turn the games off all night?

I've forgotten a couple times with my DK. One time I forgot and left a ms pac on for a couple of days when I went out of town. Both games were fine and still worked. I'm just glad the
ms pac didn't burst into flames and burn my house down while I was out of town.

yeah, that would've sucked. Did you remember during your out-of-town trip that you left it on, or did you realize it was left on when you got back?

I realized on the day I was supposed to come back that I had left it on. Ended up cutting the trip short by a few hours to hurry home and turn it off.

oh man that's the worse. I hate that "dammit, I left the front door unlocked" feeling when you're way far away from the house.

OK, since you're opening things up to stuff other than arcade games (you mentioned the front door :p), how about leaving your wallet in your car at the airport parking lot and it's too late to go back and get it or you'll miss your flight (and not knowing for sure where the wallet actually was)? Don't ask me how I got them to let me on without ID. I don't remember. But it was before 9/11. That was an awful feeling during the trip - not knowing exactly where your wallet is and hoping you don't return to find that someone broke into your car to get it or whatever.

I think your monitor was on the way out already. If you moved it from somewhere warm to cold all at once I can see you having an issue but not a gradual temp drop from 60 or so to 40 or so. With the game running as the temp went down, that should not have affected anything. I have taken games to out door parties at all times of the year and I have never had a monitor problem later in the night when the temps fell even below freezing from being 50 or so during the day.

I came downstairs one morning to find my Centipede and DK machines on, and I didn't have them on the night before.
After a few minutes, I figured out that one of my cats must have stepped on the plug strip switch and turned the games on. Who knew cats like Centipede and DK?
For a minute I was really having a WTF? moment.

An arcade machine once warmed up maintains an internal temp between 75-85 degrees in the house. Monitor temps and certain components can go well over 100 degrees but it still averages out so as long as they run, the internal temp will always be warmer than outdoor air. Your 7400 failure had nothing to do with the drop in temp, it comes down to age of the monitor and the fact that the 7400 was never great to begin with. To really answer your question i left a couple machines on for several days, my centipede was fine but my dig dug smoked the power brick transformer.

Before I knew any better, my first game (NBA Jam) stayed on night and day in the garage. Never turned it off, ever. I would just go out, play it, and walk away. It was probably on for 2 years straight and never had an issue with it.

That's how they're designed! I have a Ms. Pac in my house, I left it on a couple of years once as well. Eventually the g07 started getting 'bleary' looking, but a capkit fixed it. Still working great to this day (I don't leave it on all the time anymore, though!)

Thats cool ! I wish I had the balls to leave my games on all the time , like a real arcade , but I hear story's about the flybacks catching fire , so now I'm scared .

oh man, that would've killed the trip for me.

My slant top slot machine has been on for 3-4 years straight. It doubles as a night light in the downstairs family room. A few burnt out light bulbs is the only problems it has had.

Been there done that. Except.........leaving the games on and the garage door open all night! I'm lucky I live in a good neighborhood and didn't have anyone shady come around that night.

I agree that it was probably on it's last leg but at the same time I do think that the cold has something to do with it as well. Games don't like the cold either. :)

I finally got a chance to get out there and open it up. For some wierd reason, the flyback had cranked itself up. Very strange. The other week I moved the machine to a different wall and the focus knob was moved too. That's some shitty knobs apparently.

Monitor seems fine now, although it keeps shifting between red hues and green hues. Pretty sure I'll have to degauss it manually.

Oh,and yes Game Girl, that would suck with the door up all night. Hope that never happens to me, knock on wood.

You can put a dot of silicone on the knobs to keep them from moving like they do at the factory sometimes.

that dot of silicone is precisely what a tried to remove off my first chassis. It died immediately after it was removed.

I think I'll keep it this way. mohahahaha.
