I worked a deal and my new assault arcade will be here in the next few days.. Has anyone ever bought a game they have never played??

I have never played Assault.. I have read many threads on here and have watched some youtube vids.. It looks pretty cool.. All my machines are early 80's. This will be the newest machine I own..

Assault worth a spot in the lineup???

I think you wll be happy with assualt. Good game. Nice you got the orignal sticks.

I have bought a few games over the years that I had never played .
Hard drivin airborne (had a shot to buy the 5 protos, so I got them. its a keeper)
cosmic chasm (I played it on the vectrex, but the arcade is much better)
barrier (sold it)
the pit (sold it)
victory (It was actually free, I traded it)
slick shot(bought them for the monitors)
splatterhouse (heard the game was good, its a keeper)
total carnage ( I had smash tv, so I had to buy it)
strikeforce (update of defender, had to buy it)

I haven't played Assault, but your example looks to be in excellent condition,

I too got Total Carnage because I had Smash TV. Smash TV is the better game, IMO
Also bought Continental Circuit and World Series the Season - hadn't played those titles, and neither were working. Fixed both of them, sold both, though I wish I could have kept Continental Circuit. Lost my butt on the World Series game: paid $75 for it, playing blind. Yanked the dead K4600 and installed a Kortek that I got from that guy here who was selling monitors from 8-liners. Had about $175 in that monitor.. Took the perfectly working game to a pinball show, and let it go for ....$60.00
And a while back I bought a Thunder Jaws that was in a Stargate cab. Sold the kit and turned the Stargate into my JRok Multi Williams since it was already JAMMA-tized.

I have plenty of times, and trying out new games was one of the most exciting things about arcade collecting in my option. The games I bought were ones I knew I'd like too, since they were my types of games, and all.

Probably happens all the time with bulk buys. Years ago, I picked up Karate Champ, Touchdown Fever, Vs. RBI Baseball and Circus. Hadn't played any of them but for $40 for the lot, it would have been foolish to say no.

I would love to have an assault. As for as buying a game that you haven't played I bought an Alcon. It was in a Circus Charlie cabinet and had intended to convert it back but I got to playing the Alcon and I actually like it and my son did too so Alcon it stayed.

The 2 Rushes you hooked me up with, Dan. I don't think I had ever played it (although I had played 2049 a couple of times) but I knew I wanted to get a pair of linked drivers and researching on here I became convinced I'd like the game. I was right.

My answer is R-Type. I had played many iterations of it, including the one on the TurboGrafx-16, but I hadn't seen or played the arcade version until one came up for sale. It took about 3/4 of a year to get it back to "acceptable" condition, but it proudly sits in my lineup and has become one of my all-time favorite games.

Kudos to another Assault owner. Yours looks pretty nice! You'll be happy with it. It's a VERY fun game, albeit pretty difficult, even on the second level.

I just picked up a Mario Bros which I have never played.

I kid, I kid.

About the never playing Mario Bros part...I just wish it worked - I love that game!

You're gonna love Assault. Definitely worthy. A few games I bought that I had never played before:

SkyDiver

EMs:
Captain Kid
Arctic Gun
Wild Kingdom
Seeburg slot machine (if that counts)

I've bought a bunch of JAMMA boards that I'd never previously played. For full games:

D&D Shadow Over Mystara (had only played D&D Tower of Doom)
Prospector Pinball
Arena Pinball
S.A.R. Search and Rescue (bought it for the cab & LS 30 sticks so I could convert it to Time Soldiers)
Carrier Air Wing (had only played U.N. Squadron)

I bought NARC on a whim. It was good condition and cheap and I was already going there with a truck for a Rolling Thunder. Funny thing is it turned out to be one of my son's favorite games...

My damn Tutankham which I'm giving away for free just to make room.

Did you like Tutankhum? I have been trying to get one from a local guy.. His is over priced, I think he wants $700 IIIRC.. I offered him $300.. I think at some point I might have a shot at it...

The 2 Rushes you hooked me up with, Dan. I don't think I had ever played it (although I had played 2049 a couple of times) but I knew I wanted to get a pair of linked drivers and researching on here I became convinced I'd like the game. I was right.

I thought you had played Rush before you got those.. I think you made a good choice on those... Great game...

Im getting more excited about the Assault.. I really like the way the cabinet looks.. Whats the deal with the marquee saying Atari but the screen says namco??
