Anyone attending the IVGHOF Big Bang event in Ottumwa Iowa this week?

Agreed. What stood out to me in this thread was the "crapping on anyone who dreams big" thing, and the warning was misplaced (what purpose does it serve to do this in a thread where people who are apparently already committed to going are having a discussion?). Dude should have started his own thread a week or two ago.

No need to apologize though - simple miscommunication is all it was.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program...

You know what??? I am TOTALLY STUMPED that they don't have a place for the museum already. After all, the mayor of the town proclaimed that they were the "Videogame Capital of the WORLD", etc. If they (the city) are interested in making their town a "destination" for video game "tourists", you would think that the city would PROVIDE them with an appropriate location. When I look at the video coverage of Twin Galaxies in "The King of Kong", I don't exactly envision that town as being a metropolis of uber-valuable retail centers on their main drag through the middle of town.

You would think that they could annex a large chunk of unused emtpy store front property and provide it for next to nothing (if not totally rent free) just for the exposure, attention and influx of visitors. Look at how much money states blow on "visitor stations" in various places all over the country. SURELY some of that 1.15 TRILLION dollars of "Obama Money" can be used for this!...

I attended the "soft opening today." It was a lot of fun. I got to meet a few really nice people.

Phil the galaga champ
Phil the frenzy champ
and Walter Day. It was really cool to get to talk with all of these people.

I am going to load up at least one game and be a part of this thing tomorrow.

People can do all the poo pooing that want. If we don't show support for this kind of stuff it is not going to continue to happen. This thing is in its infancy. Give it a chance to take off.

If your short on money grab the Ottumwa paper theres a cupon that gets a family of 5 in for 25 bucks for the entire weekend. Hell even Klovian cheapskates can't argue with the price.

I personally had a really good time today. Walter day is an extremely nice guy.

If you're going to be there tomorrow, maybe I'll see you there.

I'll be there today around 3pm. I'm wearing a black shirt that says "funhouse" for anyone who's there. That's a damn good coupon price

Just look for a bald guy with a goatee wearing a black shirt that says VGEVO on the crest. Plan on being there tomorrow late morning.

To anyone in attendance:

If you don't mind, keep your eyes peeled for a guy named Ken Williams. He has blonde hair and used to write for Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine. If you happen to run across him, please tell him that Lee Bender from C&L says "hi", and that I would like to hear from him. He can get my office number from my company website, which is www.cnlperformance.com

Thanks...

Lee
