Anyone also a member over at the Neo-Geo.com forums?

Well, now that I own a Neo Geo 4-slot, I decided to join over at the Neo-Geo.com forums. I've registered, and done the little account activation thing. I can log in, and read threads. In some sections I can reply to existing posts. But I can't create new threads anywhere - not even in the "Welcome new members" section. I also can't send PM's - the option just never shows up when clicking on a member name. Similarly, I can't view my own profile, or the profile of anyone else.

I've posted a couple of replies, and that works. But I really can't use like half the functions of a web forum. Their software is seriously broken, and I can't contact any mods for help, since PM's don't work. Similarly, I tried posting a reply to a new member thread asking for help, but the post never appeared - I got a message saying it had to be approved by a moderator. Perhaps it picked up on the key words of "post" or something?

I tried emailing the webmaster, no reply.

I was really hoping to join a new community, but either their software has some serious bugs, or they really don't want new users.

Any advice?

I think it takes a day before you can make new threads. It helps weed out the spam bots or something.

Yup.

And it takes a certain number of posts before you can make new threads in some sections of the board.

Huh. Weird. You'd think they'd mention that in their FAQ, or in a sticky post, or in the email they send you when you create the account.

Well, I checked the time stamp on my "Welcome to Neo Geo forums" email, and I've offically been a member for 24 hours now. Still can't create threads. Tried logging out and back in, nothing.

I just replied to a post in the general forum, trying to help a member fix his NES console. I gave some instructions on how to repair it, and some useful info... and of course when I hit submit, it gave me the "must wait for moderator approval" message.

Ugh. This is disheartening. Are all forums like this now? Is the internet devolving to the point where all the real users have to jump through countless hoops just because of the spam bots? Or are the Neo Geo guys just a bunch of pretentious jerks that don't want outsiders coming in and joining their community?

What ticks me off the most is that there are no warnings when you sign up for the forum that you won't be able to use the forum until they decide they're good and ready to let you. I've never heard of a web forum with such draconian signup procdeures as this place seems to have. Of course, it could all be just broken software - with no official information posted about this problem, it could just be a bug.

I miss usenet.

I signed up over there years ago, ran into the same issues, and never bothered going back.

i signed up and posted a for sale thread in like a day, it should work eventually. I didnt read the rules saying you should post a for sale thread until you have like 50 posts or some crap but I never got in trouble. Anyways, there for sale forum is pretty good

I have never had issues with it. I signed up years ago but just recently started to post and hang out there more often. It seems like a lot of people are having issues like you described though.

As little as 6 months ago you could sign up and be posting within a couple days pretty much everything you needed to do. However, recently a wave of scammers has been flooding those ( and plenty of others) forums. I believe the moderation staff have been enforcing the rules which were there, but not really abided by until this new wave of scamming, and spambotting, thus the "must be approved by a moderator" is a way of weeding out the suspected spambots, especially when the email used was a free i.e. yahoo, hotmail, etc account.

You should be good to go in a few days.

BTW most of the members in the forum are pretty well mannered, and I've not once had a problem with any of the moderation staff. Whats even better is that the community is pretty much self policing, with both the good and the bad that comes from it.

Its also a great way to get some of the more contemporary PCBS, such as CPS2, naomi, etc, on their marketplace forums.

Hope this helped!

100 posts before you can create a thread in any subforum other then the introduce yourself subforum.

This is done for a load of reasons...encourage participation, prevent spambots, prevent people from just sitting in the marketplace, etc...

I still lurk the sales forums, but I also joined when I got a one-slot years ago. I tried to post a HUGE 43" Neo Cab for FREE over there (and I met the requirement of being a member for a certain amount of time, PLUS I have feed back from a couple of transactions over there), but it never showed up on the forum. Oh well, at least someone here got it instead.

I still want a gold cab some day....

I know this is an old thread, but I joined last night, and I am extremely disappointed with it.It just plain sucks due to the fact that it's extremely not user friendly. You can't do anything! Like for example, you can look at other people's profiles when you're a guest, but if you join...you can't! Not even YOUR OWN PROFILE! WTF?! The site claims that these precautions are to promote participation in the forums,but....how in the hell can you participate and feel like part of the community when you can't do anything?!

Just one of the few reasons why the KLOV rocks and that place sucks ass!

Venting over....for now.

Neo-Geo.com Forums suck !

I was a member back in the late 90's for awhile and the Mods were Assholes , well mainly just MouseMaster or what ever the hell his name is , hes a dumbass loser . Screw that place .

yup

signed up there recently. it is a while because they got flooded with spam. somone over there posted my question for me.
I'm still yet to get the pictured I need but the request is there.
have no idea about the people on there because I don't go on much until I can post not much of a point.

i did discover that their search engine is sloppy, search neo 29 and it crashed with to many results. choose key search words either very specific or vague terms.

I have the same prob with the search engine whenever I try to search for "Metal Slug". It's probably mentioned in like, EVERY sales thread on there.

But the forums are pretty damn cool, lots of interesting opinions and people. Don't give up if you're new, it's worth it.
