on converging a monitor ? Mainly for the purity adjustment, Says if not doing the process in the final position it is going to face (to the earth) then its best to preform the adjustment with the monitor facing either WEST or EAST.
LOL
I've never done this, as I never even knew it was suggested or such a thing to request. And IMO I always felt my monitors come out great. I was curious if anyone else even knew this and/or if anyone could share if indeed this makes a important difference and if so... WHY ? / HOW..

My opinion:
While the east/west position changes the device relative to the earth's magnetic field, consumers buying CRT color TVs from the mid-1950s on up would not stand for a service tech telling them they had to reposition their TV to get the best purity/convergence. Degaussing coils - both internal and external - were used to compensate. Once the device is placed where you want it, use an external degaussing coil. Small movements should be taken care of by the internal degaussing coil.
However, one problem we ran into came about when large stereo systems and giant speaker systems became popular. For some reason the customers would place these large cabinets on either side of the TV, wrecking havoc with the purity. Those often had to be moved.:)

Confirmed on the large speakers. I had to re-orient mine with the driver away from the TV (I think it was an 18" it was a Radio Shack Mach I speaker) and the tweeter (which had a much smaller magnet) nearer to the TV.

I'd get some blue bloom in the corner by the speaker (lower left hand corner) if I didn't.
