Anyone actually have a sega holoseum?

I don't but I did play with it's cousin/earlier cab Hologram Time Traveler abit back in '94-'96. It's not a great game but it is one of the more interesting uses of a Laser Disk and early 3D technology. According to Klov your game was released as conversion kit for that game...maybe with a few dedicated ones...

Indeed. You could converse about how much it sucks whilst you peruse for something worthwhile to play. :D

I used to have both Holosseum and Time Traveler, but I sold the Holosseum last year.

I've still got the Time Traveler. It's a "grail" game from my childhood, so it's likely going to be a permanent fixture in my collection

I remember being at the AMOA show in Vegas when this was on the floor being introduced. EVERYONE was talking about it. Cool concept for 3 or 4 game plays, imo.

I do have this NOS instruction sheet for Holosseum:

Yea it wasn't that good of a game but it was interesting. While talking with another member on the forum he had mentioned one that was sitting someone that he had asked about but someone had already bought it. Saw it sitting there a few months later and asked again about it and found out whoever bought the entire cabinet just wanted the mirror out of it.

Personally I wouldn't mind getting a holoseum at some point just because it is different. I'd be afraid if anything ever happened to it as I have a feeling it would be horrible to get parts for.

was doing some reading and found this for parts: http://www.game-restore.com/(better hope the mirror isn't broken because that is on backorder.)

Also personally I'd like a Hologram Time Traveler but I'm afraid of all Laser game issues like disk rot and dying players...

I've got one... its a hard one to find...so its staying the collection for awhile. I do wonder if I can use a LCD TV in place of the little tube television thats in the game. It will fail eventually.

I've been wanting of these for a couple years now. I remember in early 90s seeing this in the skating rinks and they always wanted 2$ to play and I never wanted to spend that much when I was a kid. I do remember just gazing at the attract mode while it blew my mind away because how kool it was

There is one on our local Craigslist for the last 2.5 years sitting at a price of $600, and he hasn't budged in all these years. Just keeps renewing it every week. I raided this guys storage locker that many years ago and picked up a non-working Afterburner for $75 and non-working Ice Cold Beer for $175. Afterburner was a fuse and Ice Cold Beer needed new belts. For the life of me I don't know why he thinks this one is a $600 machine. Here is the picture I took at the time, and its still for sale. He claims it is working and says the laminate just needs to be reglued.

Jeremy is the guy hard to deal with, id offer him 200$ that doesn't look like it would be hard to repair. Maybe you could grab it for me or something along those lines.

I'm not sure, you would have to contact him through Craigslist. He was easy with me, but I was the first one to show up to pick through his stuff. He may have wised up, but was nice enough to me. We could work something out I'm sure, but this guy is 1 hour away from me, and the size of that thing would require 2 guys and a trailer so the logistics will take some working.

Has the laserdisc been digitized? Could you replace the laserdisc/player/boardset with MAME or Daphne in the future if the original stuff is impossible to fix, laser rot, etc?

Holosseum doesn't use a laserdisc. Time Traveler does, but for Holosseum, Sega swapped out the laserdisc player for a PCB.

I sold mine to 30fathomdave. They are just too big and hurt your eyes if you play for any amount of time. I was told that it was a kit to convert time travelers because of the laser disc issues, and they also sold stand alone units. But, they weren't that popular, and most of them were destroyed to take the tv. The one i had, had a monitor in it though, so they must have converted it before i got it.

yeah I know...maybe I shouldn't have brought that up but they both use the exact same cab(which is rather unique as arcade cabs go) so it's kinda impossible for me not to see one without thinking about the other one. As for the guys question well I'm not sure but Hologram Time Traveler has had a home DVD port but I don't know if a digital copy of the disk exists.

Oh, yes, given. It is interesting as hell. Looks super cool. Right up until you try playing it. :D

It's a lot of floor space and money to dedicate to a game that will - realistically - never get played (or played once per person/group and then ignored). But there are people here that have tons of 'look-at-me' games nobody likes so more power to you if you want one. I couldn't devote that kind of floor space to a game even if it were a grail of mine.

To put it in perspective they used to have one of these in nearly every arcade I frequented bitd. I played each title once. Was never tempted to play either game again, ever.

If I could find one in good shape when I have the spare cash I'd still pick one up. I could make room for it and thing it is just interesting enough to keep. Remember playing it at Snow Shoe in West Virginia at night after skiing.

Don't get me wrong I don't see it getting played nearly as much as my few other arcade games. Still think it is really cool though.

Rise from the dead, thread!

I just had to poke around looking for a thread on these titles. One of the arcades I worked at before I worked there, I vividly remember playing Time Traveler at it when I was a kid. Never understood what the heck I was doing, but always found a way to justify dumping at least a buck in it every time I was there, when all the other games were a quarter a play.

When I worked at that arcade, that poor machine was broke in the back room. I always thought about trying to make it work, but at the time there was really no resources for parts or information on what the heck was wrong with it. I almost offered to buy it from the owner, but I'm glad I didn't -- I'm positive I wouldn't have had the heart to part with it, but it is also way bigger than it is worth. Very cool concept, anyone have any information on how many of them were sold?
