Anybody ever use Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive or Thermal Compound

I've got some heatsinks I need to reapply (one for a Nintendo PPU and one for and ECL Ram chip) and think I need the adhesive for this.

Then I have a Dragon's Lair sound amp chip that needs some type of thermal paste under it (this one is attached with a screw and has non-adhesive paste).

I think I'm on the right track with this for the Nintendo heatsinks

and this for the amp chip

but I figured I'd better ask around before doing anything.

I use the Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound for all my computer and arcade related needs.
Never had an issue with that stuff compared to the white stuff that chunks up.

That's the stuff that's not adhesive, right?

I am a big fan of the Loctite 383 thermal adhesive. You can usually get the kit for ~$40 or so.

For thermal compounds, I'm still working off a mountain of Arctic MX-2.

I used the arctic silver adhesive on my KI1 to put a new heat sink on the CPU. stuffs rock solid.

Use isopropyl alcohol, 90% or better, to thoroughly clean off the remains of the old thermal paste or thermal pad first before applying new paste/pad. If you need to buy new thermal paste, Arctic Silver 5 is good stuff.

Yeah, it's just like grease. But holds up a lot better over time.

Okay, I think I got it now. Sounds like Arctic Silver 5 wouldn't work on the PPU or ECL Ram because it won't physically "glue" the heatsink to the the chip. I'll use the Silver 5 on the audio amp chip since that's held in place by a screw.
