Anybody ever put a PCB in a dishwasher?

That's nasty... don't put that shit in your dishwasher. You need to go at that thing with a toothbrush. When they've got lots of crap on them like that I hose them off outside first, then clean them with a toothbrush in the kitchen sink using a degreaser (Simple Green) and/or a bit of dishwashing detergent.

Just knowing that was in my dishwasher I would never drink out of a glass that was washed in it again! Just soak the boards in a shallow pan with hot water for a while with some kind of cleaner that should loosen most of the crap so you can get in there with a tooth brush or something. I would definitely get rid of the big clumps of disgusting crap before you put it in your dishwasher or else you'll be cleaning all that nasty hair out of the screen in the bottom.
Yuck!

Dont put wiring in the dishwasher. Or in any type of submerged/bath conditions. You should hand wash that with a damp rap (suggest simple green).

Moisture will wick into the wire and you won't get it out. It will tarnish/corrode the wiring leading to typical problems like burnt edge connectors and power supplies that fail prematurely. Or hard to track down signal problems.

Don't put that stuff in your dishwasher John. You can't do that in good conscience knowing your family will be eating and drinking from items subsequently washed in the machine.

Use a deep plastic tub and soak the stuff as suggested - $3.00 tub @ Wally World.

As others have said, hose those down ahead of time, there is a lot of loose stuff in those boards.

When I restore a game I typically wash everything (except the switcher if there is one). PCB's, monitor, coin door, wiring harness, usually the power bricks too. Knowing all the nastiness/smells are gone is just as important to me as having them look nice on the outside. I usually wash the cabinets too, especially the plywood cabinets which can handle a washdown better than the particle board cabinets.

I'm comfortable with using water, I just don't want to put a grimy board in my dishwasher. IMO, that is a sanitary place that anything other than dishes needs to be. Would you be comfortable putting a really dirty cloth baby diaper in there? Do you realize there is animal waste on those boards most of the time?

As for me, I have washed several boards with bleach white and a water hose. I do the same with monitors (once I'm sure the aquadag won't wash away).

I totally agree......that shit is going no-where near ANYTHING associated with my food. I don't care how many times you run an "empty" cycle.

You guys all go to restaurants where your silverware is shared with god knows who, have no clue how well it gets cleaned, and your worried about a dirty PCB in your own dishwasher? Awesome.

Hope none of you guys live in places where you have to share laundry with others...

If you're that worried, use the sanitize cycle to get the water extra hot.

John I just threw up mentally and physically after looking at the pic. I'm horrified that you would even think of putting that in your dishwasher. HORRIFIED!!!

...and has your wife seen what you're about to stick in the dishwasher? :)

We're in the process of dividing up property. The dishwasher might be the only thing I can put something in for the forseeable future.:)

I should mention too, I wash car parts, tools, etc in the dish washer.

Actually come to think of it, dishes hardly ever see that thing. Paper plates, those little plastic things that come with tv diners, and plastic utensils. get used mostly, and the coffee cups get cleaned in the sink.

That POS Magic Chef DW won't even clean food particles off plates properly. But amazingly enough it does a good job with PCB's

Although case in point, a mouse home? I mean mine are mostly dust, and dirt.

BOOM! Add 10 years to scumbum's life expectancy!
(but subtract points because your immune system doesn't get its regular workouts anymore)

Hah...I eat at McD's or Taco Bell every day. With an occassional Little Ceasar's $5 pizza thrown in for variety. ;)
