Anybody else hate Candy Cabs?

Look, in Japan the arcade culture is so advanced that they even put arcade games in the BATHROOM!

They are too short. I don't like sitting down at an arcade machine, and I can't play as well sitting down at an arcade machine either. Also, I don't like the way they look. They look like a major appliance of some sort.

Honestly, I've never even seen one of those things in real life, only in pictures online. They were never in the arcades I went to. Heck, when I started collecting and went online, I kept thinking "Astro City" was a game.

Everything I've seen about them just seems so... "meh". They're boring and uninteresting. And the monitors are too big, IMHO. They also seem too short. If you're going to go for a generic Jamma cabinet, might as well just go with the cut corner Dymo. Those are much nicer looking, and they fit the arcade much better.

Cant hate them, because I have never actually seen one in person. Nothing I would want to collect, but I am sure there are some that would.

Looks like a good cabinet to sit down and play mahjong at.

I hate the name "Candy Cab".... There's nothing candy about mine. When anyone asks about it I tell them what it really is... a Japanese sit-at cabinet.
I have a Taito Egret 29, and it is the only generic cabinet left in my gameroom. I have no plans to get rid of it. I have hundreds of boards, and it is the perfect cab for swapping games.
Here's an old pic with my son playing Robotron:

Candy cabs are ok. But the prices I see these for sale at most of the time don't seem worth it to me.

I'd really rather have a JAMMA upright cab with a nice marquee, bezel, cpo, and side art.

I like the "clean" look of the Candy Cabinet. It seems like it would be nice to have a couple of them so company can play on those large screens.

But I of course prefer the various dedicated cabinets I played on in the 80s because that is what I'm used to.

I have a friend who has two Candy Cabinets. A vertical and a horizontal one. I had to put a computer power supply in one because the guy he bought the cabinets from was no help in the repair department and getting the original Japanese replacements are all but impossible. So I'd assume the same would go for the monitors if and when they have problems.

Oh, there is one thing I don't like about mine.... Every time I open it up (to swap boards, rotate the monitor, etc.) it stinks of those cheap Jap cigarettes! I scrubbed the outside of the machine so it doesn't normally smell, but how do I get that stench out from the inside?

Put a dryer sheet in there.... it will kill the odor over time..

I have actually started looking for a Candy Cab. They never seem to pop up in my area or at reasonable prices. I am sure that I will eventually find one if I am diligent.

As I have mentioned before, I am tall. When I play Ms. Pac, Galaga or Donkey Kong standing up, I am literally staring at the marquee. I always end up using a stool. Even on my Mario Bros widebody cabinet I sit on a stool.

The idea of a cabinet that I can play sitting down is great. The look of them is growing on me too. Seems a little easier to put in a normal room too since it isn't so tall.

Holy shit tell me about it. I've had mine for 10 years and every time I stick my head in there it smells exactly like the day I first got it...a Japanese tobacco farm.

See that's my biggest complaint with them, with the name "Candy Cab" and there being no actual "Candy".......what a let down...........:p

You're going to be in a really bad mood when you see a New Astro City candy cab then. ;)

I agree with the OP; they look like bland washing machines to me.

Though I have never actually seen one for real, not even at any auctions.

you can order one brand new chinese candy cab complete with monitor, controls and multigame pcbs for about 400-1000$ plus shipping costs(by boat)
