for their arcade addiction? I remember seeing Rickie Shroder having arcades in his house and thinking it was the coolest thing ever. Not so much when Menudo did a concert at the house but just the same the arcades stood out even to this day!

I actually refer to my game room as my Silver Spoons room. I bet a lot of people were inspired by that. Man, I was so jealous when i was little.

I always wanted to have a collection *nicer* than his. Accomplishment unlocked.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who have a better arcade collection then Silver Spoons, but who has a train that can drive through your arcade and house???

I think the crux of mine is that I had video games in my house, but never arcades. In my mind, they were always like the better, earlier versions of the home releases. No way my family could ever afford them. No way I could ever afford them. I kept thinking that when I was an adult, I could save up and buy whatever was new at the time. Little did I know, I wouldn't be interested in today's new titles.

Side note: I did have an Asteroids Deluxe in my grandmother's house as a kid, but it was my neighbors. It was on loan.

I hated little Ricky Schroeder so much, and was totally jealous of his arcade games.
Would have smothered him in that dumb car-bed.

Yup! I was always more impressed by the train. The arcade games look so cheezy in that picture, but as a kid I remember them looking like the real deal!

I never watched silver spoons growing up as I was a senior in high school when it started. I think growing up poor and working to get money for going to arcades and buying video games had the biggest effect on my collecting.

I never watched the show. Its interesting that they gussied up the Asteroids between the two pics... In the first one it just has the wide white border, in the second it appears to have blue and red stripes there.

Edit: On second look, perhaps they are on there, but just barely visible in the first pic for some reason.

Oddly enough, it never occurred to me as a kid that I could have my own Silver Spoons-inspired arcade! Had the ColecoVision, friends had Intellivisions and 2600s, and I had quick access to two or three arcades on my BMX. I guess I always felt a home arcade was too "unattainable" -- until recently! :)

I remember being amazed by the fact that he had games at home when I was a kid. I was convinced you needed some special permit to own them or something :p Strangely enough, I don't remember anything about the show except for the fact that he had cabs at home. I couldn't tell you the basic story, or anything at all.

It was definitely the initial hook for me. I didn't think it was actually possible to own the games until I was in my 30's though.
