Got this with a bunch of other crap today, the website printed on the PCB is gone but the way-back machine says it's a
Burner Free 8051 Microcontroller Development Board ( Programmable through RS232 port)

I can't code, is this thing useful anymore? I know enough to know there are newer USB and wireless development platforms, so should this go into the trash bin?

You could probably spend the time to find or create tools to use it for 8051 or other general microcontroller experiments. Realistically, I would probably just strip the 8051, LCD, and any other useful components.

There is tiny basic available for the 8051.

There are many things you can do with a small processor.
A pause feature on a game
A coin up feature that credits a games 5 or 10 times.
A wake up feature when you walk up to an arcade.
A mute feature for the sound when it's in the attract mode.
