Any suggestions where I can buy small springs?

Well, my restoration is 95% done. All that's stopping me from having the game 100 per cent working is a small little one inch long spring. The solenoid pictured is a little stiff, and the spring no longer is powerful enough to return the rod after the solenoid is fired. I need to either replace the spring and/or lube the shaft.

Where can I find a spring like this? I tried Lowe's and Home Depot already to no avail. Also, what would you use, if anything, to lubricate the rod to help a bit more?

If you want a quick fix, cut the spring in half then bend a new end with a needle nose pliers.
Try tractor supply, and dont go hunting for an exact match, you will drive yourself bonkers.

Just got back from Value, they didn't have any small enough.

andykmv - Thanks! I'll go call up my local harbor freight and ask them if they have it in stock.

toolguy - A ballpoint wouldn't work, they use compression springs. Thanks though.

What about rebuilding the solenoid with a new sleeve, and cleaning all of the moving parts? Would that free it up enough to let it work properly? I don't suggest lube, all that will do is attract dirt and dust and make it sticky.
As for springs, I have noticed that the local Ace Hardware has a bunch of drawers with various hardware, there are several with springs, you might try there also.

I was thinking about rebuilding the solenoid but I'm impatient and want the parts today haha. Hopefully I can get a spring as a temp fix and order a new sleeve eventually (It's gonna be a bitch to take off though). I called Harbor Freight and the one down the street has 10 of that 200pc spring kit in stock so I'll be picking up one of those in a little bit.

1) Looks very close to the spring that holds recessed lighting bezel. Might be pricier than some of the other ideas here. A few of mine only have one side with a spring--dam kids.
2) Old fashion small town hardware store

Alright guys, I went and picked up that 200 piece spring kit from Harbor Freight...I ended up finding one in there that worked after I snipped a couple coils off it. Woohoo!!
