Any Southeast Virginia guys know about this?

It would be nice to see a Dragon's Lair out in public but Saturday's are not good for me. Don't think I could make it unless maybe in the afternoon. I'll think about it and see what my schedules like.:)

Hey there. I'll be there since I'm hosting it and the library is offering us the space for Saturday. This is the first time they've done a strickly game-related event and the manager is really enthusiastic about the stir it's caused. We have people from other message boards across the Net and a group on Facebook if you dig around.

About the Dragon's Lair, it's a home-made arcade machine dedicated to emulating it. The owner is the manager of the Namco arcade in Greenbrier. He's a really great person and will be providing a few of the machines.

The current highly-likely arcade list:
Centipede
Donkey Kong
Dragon's Lair
Mrs. Pac-Man
Neo-Geo 2-slot
Robotron2084
Rygar
Soulcalibur

There are some other machines, but we'll have to see what we can get in such a tight time frame. For example, Mortal Kombat 4 is a heavy beast and a Galaga is currently not putting out. If the turn out is high then expect another event in the future and possibly something bigger. :)

I hope people can make it out despite the "snow" they're calling for.

I intend to be there. I will be a little late for the show because I have to take my wife and kid to the airport but I will be heading straight to the show after dropping them off.

Is the Namco Arcade the one in the Greenbriar Mall? I am actually living in a hotel across the street, I'd love to drop some quarters in that arcade but there is nothing that interests me, I have spent some time with the games at the Cinema Cafe though.

Hey Richard, I didn't ask you if you had ever been to any arcades in the area. Flipper McCoy's was one of the oldest and best we have, had. We had 2,one at Military Circle and one at the boardwalk at Virginia Beach. I heard the one at Military Circle closed down but I think the one at the beach is still open. I haven't been their in years though.

Yes, that arcade. The problem is it's corporate so whatever makes money stays and in modern times that's mainly music beat games and redemption machines.

Possibly sad news, they're calling for 2-6 inches of snow and since it's hosted at the library there's a major concern of closing. I will get up with the library manager today and see what the current status is.

Sam,

I have been to both Flipper McCoy's. The one at Military Circle did close down a little over a year ago. It is now a VFW or something similar. The VA Beach location is still pretty good. They currently have quite a few classics including Burger Time, Gyruss, Donkey Kong, and multiple pacs. They have a Tron and a Punch-out hidden in a corner behind a football toss machine. I assume they quit working and were stashed away until they could be worked on, but they have been there for close to two years now...

There is also a decent arcade in the Chesapeake Square Mall. I don't remember the name of the place but they have a few pins including a Medieval Madness and Williams Indiana Jones. I don't remember any classic vids but there were quite a few Jamma side-scroll fighters such as The Simpsons and TMNT.

The bad news has come down, the city will most likely close facilities including the library. Since that call will most likely be announced AFTER I have dropped machines off we've decided to go with a reschedule. Currently we're working out a new date and I'll post that information when it comes available.

Sorry everyone, if this just ends up as a dusting it will be a huge upset. Otherwise, enjoy building snowmen and watch out for yellow snow!

It is cool to see someone doing something here in Virginia. I may or may not be able to make it down when it happens. I remember the Flipper McCoys down by the beach was pretty cool. However, the pins were not very well maintained when I was there. This was about 9 or 10 years ago.

Hey Clytor, are you the same Clytor That helped me out last September? If so how have you been? If not either way welcome to KLOV Forums. :D

Damn. Do you have any idea when you plan to reschedule it? I am only in town for another month or so and I'd love to attend the show if it can be rescheduled befoer I leave.

Wow, if the weather man is right we could get 6" to 12" of snow or more. :eek:I know that's nothing to folks that have snow on a regular bases but around here 12" is a crippling snow. Best to stay home as the people around here cant drive on a straight road with the sun shining. Hope they can reschedule the show soon.:)

Nothings changed with flipper's pins...

It's sad that this fell apart for tomorrow, most of my game room was going to be sitting in the library and there were a good number of others that were going to be loaning their games for this event as well.

Turns out the weather man was right. We got a good 4 to 8 inches so far but it's winding down now.
They said on the news the State police had responded to over 600 accidents and that was at Noon today. Here's a few pictures.

The bad news regarding that is the earliest available slot is in June because we take up the conference space from Friday afternoon until Sunday closing, that's for setup and break down with the event running on a Saturday. The manager will be seeing if we can get an earlier spot by working with others currently reserving the space, but that's an unreliable claim that it'll be sooner. Anyone's guess is good at this point, but a push to June or later is quite possible.

The main hope of the event would be if the first run is successful with turn-out then we'd be looking at a second spin. So we're not placing out backs to the event, it will happen but when is the question in the air.

That's disappointing news, for me anyway.

I have met quite a few guys in the local area and if you can include at least one pinball machine you'd increase your appeal.

So the new date for the event is August 7th. Yes, it's several months from now but it was the earliest date we could reserve 3 days for setup, event, and packup. August is the hotest month out of the year, but at least school will be out for most so an increased show up could be present. Hope to see people there!
