I am thinking of re-theming my Data East Cab as a Rygar. I Loved the game on the NES, so I recently grabbed the arcade PCB. I didn't know if it was JAMMA or not before grabbing it, so unfortunately I was forced to buy a JAMMA adapter today when I found out it wasn't. Any fans of the game? Anyone know where I can grab the side art?

I loved the game BITD, but i honestly cant remember if i beat it at the arcade. I played it at the arcade, on the NES, LYNX, and SEGA as well as the 3d remake/sequel on PS2 (i think). I plan on having one eventually. No idea on the artwork other than the usual suspects.

I remember when I was a kid working as a dish washer a friend from school I worked with and I both cashed our checks on a Friday, got a taxi to Kaybee toys and both picked up a game. I picked up Rygar and played it through complete that night. It's a great game. I think he picked up Kid Icarus which is also a great game.

I've never played the arcade version, is there a difference?

I've read the NES version is a bit different than the arcade version. The arcade version is more like a side-scroller and the NES version is more of a Metroid-like game, with a fully mapped, interactive and navigable world.

NES version is pretty linear but more varied than the arcade version. I like the NES version better actually.

Love Rygar, played it and Ghosts N Goblins a ton back in the day. Was pretty good at it as well, I think it ends at around level 24 or 27, something like that. The NES version was fun but it's a totally different game. They do have the side art for sale, check this link:

That place seems to hve all the various parts available. I think Rygar was only ever sold as a conversion.

I bet I can trade for the Rygar in Eldon if you're interested.

Thanks man, but they would have to come WAY down for me to get that. It looks like it's in a Defender cab??? I'd really like to just have the pcb and maybe the marquee/bezel depending on what size they are, I would try and find a different cab for it, never liked the look of Defender for anything other than Defender...lol

I worked at an arcade and played Rygar all the time there. Really fun game. I finished it finally but honestly, after you have finished it, there is not that much fun in playing very often. I play it in mame sometimes now, but just for the nostalgia.
To me, it's just not one of those games that you would play all the time, especially if you don't have good memories of it from back in the day.
I'd buy one for myself just for Nostalgia but it would mostly just sit until I got the itch every 6 months or so to play a game of it.
I heard the home version is totally different.

Fizgig did all the artwork but after he was banned, I don't think he sent his stuff off to this old game to have it available for everyone like he did his previous works.
It's a shame. There is some stuff on Ebay but I don't believe it's top notch quality.

I hope you enjoy the game if you decide to go ahead with the conversion.

I played it a decent amount in the arcade but never put enough money in it to get too far. I always liked it though. I'd kind of like to have one for a stint.

Rygar is a great game and I always enjoyed it in the arcade (the only version I want to play). Some day I will make another one for the collection.
