I picked one up last week and am not really liking it.For some reason it is so much more difficult than the console version.Get hit twice and your dead?? Why even bother to have an energy meter? I even changed the difficulty to easy and it's still hard. I'd really hate to sell it after only a week but it may just come to it.Anyone else hers have one but actually enjoy it?

It's a good side scroller. I remember mostly playing Code Name: Viper on the NES, which was basically a Capcom variation of Rolling Thunder. Fun game though.

:D

Yes it's hard. So what? Practice more, and get better at it. J/K :001_sbiggrin:

Seriously, though, the soundtrack on that game is great. Rolling Thunder was my gateway drug cab. It all started there, and went down hill...

I like the game too, especially some of the long jumps you can make when you are heading down to lower levels. Back when I was in Middle School they had a Rolling Thunder machine and a Pacmania in the lodge at Snow Valley ski area. When I'd take a break to eat lunch I'd always play a few games of each before heading back up the lifts.

I'm a fan, not an owner of it tho. I've played it on my spare pc tho in mame, still love that game. it's tough but that's what makes it fun.

Rolling Thunder gets lots of love from me on the MAME cab. It's difficult but most of that can be minimized by going slow. Make sure you go into the Arms closets a couple times each to get more ammo, be methodical and you can get to the 3rd or 4th level without too much sweat.

That's a nice call, Jess. CNV was a great NES game! I used to play RT at a local movie theater. It's a great game. I loved the bad guys in the hoods. Great look to the game and yes, the soundtrack was cool. I can understand the frusteration in the game being hard, tho. Good luck.

I played the shit out of RT on NES, none of my arcades had it though.

Edit: hahaha, just remembered that I traded my NES cart for a full set of x-men cards from like 1992.

RT is one of my favorite games. I also really like the design/style/shape of the dedicated version cabinet.

Yep, it's tough. I don't personally find it any tougher than Shinobi (another very similar game, and one of my favorites).

I like it. Just stick with it. It's patternable in the same way something like Ghosts & Goblins is patternable.

Plus you gotta dig that soundtrack and the attract mode laughter.

I love it and hate all in the same. Love it because of the soundtrack and difficulty, and hate it because of one part that I have never passed with the fire pit and the guys jumping around. As mentioned before hand, I just need more practice through that area, but by the time you get there, it already feels like a marathon :)

Due to space and that I have this and RT2 on my multiboard, I passed on a pretty good dedicated one from a buddy. Now that I'm moving to a new house with more room, I wish I would have grabbed it then :(

That's where I usually die as well. I've watched Bryan Wagner play his WR game on it and it is pretty amazing shit.

I played a few games on it tonight and am getting a little better. It's really bugging me that there is no marquee light lol

I have a Rolling Thunder (it's tentatively sold but I still have it) that was made at Atari's Ireland plant. The Irish cabs did have a marquee light, and had a different marquee actually (a translite vs. the U.S. overlay style) as well as a pretty cool full wrap cpo. It's a whole different cabinet entirely too. Here are some comparison pics:

I like the game, it's pretty chalenging. Here's a bit of trivia for you: It was actually the first JAMMA game ever.

:D Raises hand too! Loves me some Rolling Thunder - just got myself one a few weeks ago. Yes it's hard - at first. You'll get better. The gameplay, the graphics, the music, the sound effects,.....pure awesomeness.

How weird.... Was just playing this tonight! A lot of people take a shizzz on this game but what a blast it is to play!!! Finished it and still love to play it. It is tough but stick with It. Great game!
