Any retail stores still sell those $400 multi cabs??

My mom and dad want one of those $400 multicabs that used to be at Target, costco, sams club or whatever. I tried to talk them out of it but they really want one. Have they been discontinued? They can't seem to find them anywhere. The last one they saw went for $200 but it was too far away.

why not build them a 60in1?

I think you can find them online, I see them from time to time on ebay for the original price, but sometimes there expensive

they do realize how small those things are, right? They'll throw out there backs just standiing there playing it.

I could'nt build them a cab as I do not have the experience, I can barely troubleshoot problems I have with my own cabs.

The only confusing part of a multi is if you hook up a trackball and even that is easy if you buy a wiring harness from Bob Robertson.

To save money you can use a PC power supply and decase an LCD monitor. See attached pic. I am using a switching power supply but the LCD is nothing but your average run of the mill PC LCD decased and framed in.

If you can find a crappy vertical JAMMA cabinet complete locally, then your work is real simple. Here's what to do:

Clean cabinet with rag
Replace jamma board with 48/1 board
Commence playing games.

That's definitely the way to go. I played a couple of games on one of those craptastic $400 machines, and it felt like I would either:

A. knock it over while playing
B. yank the joysticks out by accident since they are cheap shit
C. lose my eyesight looking at that crappy small ass screen

Buy a JAMMA cab... make sure it has 2 buttons and a stick... plug n play.

Those Target pieces of junk are absolute garbage. I wouldn't sell one to an enemy...

do they only want the games on it, or are they into the cab itself? Its very easy to build a cab if you have the time.

The manufacturer of those 'things', Big Electronic Games, went out of business almost two years ago.

I still see them all over Craigslist.

I saw one in person when they were being sold in stores and it seemed flimsy as hell to me. Cheap cabinet quality and a tiny screen. I've seen them show up, used, on CL in the DC area from time to time in the $200 price range.

the taito multi game cabinet is built fairly well.

the konami and midway multi cabs are garbage. not worth 50 bucks. they'll get MORE stable if you pour water all over them.

i actually have the cp marquee and all the guts ouf of a midway one if you want to build them one( or better yet make it a supergun that way you can hook to any tv!)

yeah just the games

If it's JUST the games, go MAME and get them a Hori Xbox joystick.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16874179003

Install the drivers for it to work with windows:

http://www.digitalsapien.com/how-to-configure-a-hori-xbox-360-fighting-stick-ex2-for-use-in-windows

Get a couple of four-way (GT-8F) or eight way gates (GT-Y) from lizard lick:

http://www.lizardlick.com/pages/joysticks.shtml

Mod the sticks:

http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149488&referrerid=13029

The sticks with the octagonal restrictor will play the 4-way classics fine because you don't get caught in a diagonal as easy as you would with a square or round gate. Use the 4-way restrictor if you JUST going to play 4-way games.

Seems like a lot of work, but the whole thing will cost you maybe $60. And they can play any game they want. Well, if you want to play Robotron or Crazy Climber, you should probably pick up two sticks.

How close is the game play to the real cabs IE:graphics etc? I found a midway today for $150 mint shape.

I said it before... I will say it again... RUN! You'd be better off buying a $10.00 "joystick" multigame you attach to a TV. It's about the same experience.
