Saw a few commercial and some cheap Chinese ones on feebay. Probably need one that displays hFE data.
 
Unless you need a commercial quality one because you do this for a living (which I'm guessing not), I'd just get one of the 328-based ones from epay. They work great and test bjts, fets, caps, diodes, resistors, inductors, etc etc...

Transistor testers are kind of a gimmick

Bad transistors can be checked a with a DMM. If you really want to know the amplification check the data sheet.

I guess it would be nice if you buying dodgy transistors from China and are worried about fakes.

They're nice for speed checking lots you pick up and quickly identifying unmarked or house numbered parts as well. Transistors can degrade without failing and testing it's gain is not only useful to determine that, but it's also useful for matching complimentary pairs up. Not a necessary item to own but they have a place.
