I'm from over in the video arcade forum... I've got a gun based arcade game that uses a +20v coil/solenoid to give the gun the feeling of recoil. I think solenoids are more common in the pinball world.

Anyone know anything similar I can use or build? Here is a pic:

Yeah, 20v and 50v solenoids run the pinball world, more or less.

Do you have a part number for the solenoid that was on the game originally? Was it AC (no diode) or DC (usually a diode)? They are usually rated by gauge and turns - i.e a 23-800 coil is 23 gauge wire that has 800 turns around the core, that sort of thing.

If this is an old 1960s or 70s vintage EM gun game, there are several resources for the right part.

Terminator or RevX? I've used AE23-800's in Terminator before (as suggested above). I'd look for blown fuses or broken wires before replacing any parts first.

It's terminator, I replaced the fuses and it blew them again. Then I noticed one of the solenoids I can't even operate by hand. Its fused in place.

Coil and diode are probably bad. Good chance that the drive transistor is also bad.

EDIT: Does the fuse blow as soon as you power the game up or when you start firing after you've started a game?

The left and right gun have independent fuses.

I believe the game tries to fire the solenoids a single time during the boot process.

The solenoid in the left gun is movable by hand. It fires one time during the boot process and blows the fuse.

The solenoid in the right gun is not movable. It gets all the way into the game and even makes a clicking sound while trying to fire. It blows the fuse after about 10 shots.
