I thought the 360 problems were solved by the update where you could download full games to the Hard Drive, thus bypassing the need for the disc to constantly be spinning. I've heard from numerous people that this was the main design flaw since not all systems came with hard drives, so the games were designed to be streamed off the disc which created all the heat that ruined the boards and whatnot. I've got a launch system and it works fine but I never play anything without downloading it to the hard drive first. I guess I should preface that by saying I have a launch Japanese system, recently got it brand new, and never played anything on it from the drive itself, so far so good. It is annoying that you have to constantly shuffle what is on your HDD if you're like me and only have 20gb, but its better than the system being broken, or you could just buck up and buy a new HDD to have more games on it. That update to play games off the HDD didn't come out until recently though, so I think before then you were pretty much screwed as far as reliability.
