Any Nintendo Restorations in the works for Anybody?

Wow Phet! I am surprised you didn't replace the side art, it was torn! :D That looks as good as the R-Type you restored!

I didn't restore it for me, and I went above and beyond for the $325 pricetag that I and the buyer had agreed on before I started. Can you imagine that paltry $325 taking a $100+ hit for new side art? Ridiculous. I saved the side art for my own machine, which I restored a few weeks later:

Now that is beautiful! Why do I always see Capcom Bowling in Pac-Man cabinets?!? It seems as common as Golden Tee in a Mortal Kombat cabinet.

Since we're on the subject, can you guys give me a tutorial on removing the speaker grill panel, as well as the coin door panel on a DK cab without completely f****ng up the wood. I started to wiggle it, but the wood is acting like it wants to split so I stopped. Also, after removing and refinishing the 2 panels, what's the best method of reattaching them? Thanks for any info!

It's screwed in. There are a few staples IIRC but it should come out easily.

Any more insight on this? I tried searching for a thread on it but couldnt find one

It's pretty straight forward really. The speaker grill is held on by four phillips screws sandwiched behind the grill. After taking the speaker out the grill comes right off. The coindoor comes off in one whole piece after removing all of the nuts from every screw on the inside of the cabinet.

Yeah, they are pretty easy to remove. Make sure all of the screws are removed, double check that there are no crown staples (if there are, remove them with a flat head screwdriver and a pair of pliers). You can usually knock the blocks loose with a few light taps with a hammer. They were originally glued as well but the glue has usually become brittle enough to just break free.
If there are a couple of areas that are really attached, double check that there isn't a staple there, then you can use a putty knife with a hammer to "gently" seperate the wood from the cabinet.

I usually use a pencil to make a couple of alignment marks to make reinstallation easier (and more accurate). When reinstalling, use wood glue and allow it to properly cure. Your cab will be super solid afterward

P.S. Only remove the screws that are attached to the cabinet and not the panel so that the wood blocks stay attached to the speaker panel and kick plate.

Thanks Greg, that was really helpful. Just finished taking the 2 sections off with minimal problems. She is definitely gonna need a new base....doesnt someone on here sell unassembled ones? I'd be interested in buying one in the near future.

Here's what I got after about an hour of work. Time to get to sanding and filling! Sorry for the bad quality pic....it's from my phone.

Sweet man thanks! Anyone have accurate diminsions for the bottom base? I suppose I could just measure my shitty ones, but if someone has them handy I would appreciate it!

on the original post, my mario bros (converted DK) is sitting in the garage to make space for the multi williams, so i'll tackle that next. i need to sand, bondo, and paint the front of the cab. sides are in nice shape, so i'm gonna clean them up and put on new side art, a new cpo, get a coin box, and clean up the coin door. although, if i could find another DK cab, i'd love to transfer my cocktail boardset over to that and have an upright.
