Are there any new forum sections needed?

Is there demand for a console game section, or a ?

I know this upgrade his just begun, but a few things could be added.
Mainly, the one thing that fits most appropriately is the Arcade add-on. It would be listed at the top where you see User CP, FAQ, Community, etc. I am a member of two other forums that run this exact version of vbulletin and both have a flash arcade. You can add/remove which ever games you would like, but there are so many classic flash games available. It also saves high scores, and also who has the most high scores etc.
If any help is needed with that, the admins of the boards that currently run that add-on would be glad to help.

Only problem with the arcade, bandwith....

there's been a lot of chatter in the For Sale section recently about best offer and auction posts. Perhaps another section specifcally for these kinds of posts.

I have 2 suggestions. First is a Politics forum. Maybe make it a sub forum in the Chat about anything section. The politics have been taking over in there and it would be nice to move it out so that everybody else doesn't even have to look at it.

Next would be a subforum in the For Sale section for User Feedback. It would replace that feedback sticky post. Check out the Atariage forums for this. There is a separate thread for everybody's feedback. They are in alphabetical order so it is easy to find everything. It is a much better feedback system so we can know who the good guys are.

There's one bugaboo...

Can you make the User Avatar and info be strictly on a left column like on the old site? Having it horizontal across the top is very very annoying and it makes scrolling a constant must because of all the dead space it causes between posts.

Just my two cents.

Yes.

We need a forum to submit/discuss KLOV game entry corrections.

There are many entries in KLOV that are erroneous. The current process of submitting change requests, photos, etc does not appear to be working.

An open forum to discuss changes would allow proposed changes to be openly vetted by some of the veterans/owners of these games. Some of the "facts" about games are debatable, thus would benefit from a open forum for discussion.

As there are many that require fixing, you may want to have a forum with a sub-forum per letter (KLOV changes for games whose name starts with 'A') etc.

Then, have someone actually *make* the changes in KLOV.

KLOV originally had a sort of Wikipedia style of game update functionality (when Brian Johnson and I were working on it). Since that functionality has been removed, and whatever process was put in place hasn't been working, I think an open forum would be a good start. Plus all the discussion would get archived automatically if we need to look back why something was changed.

If KLOV is to be a world class source of game information, it needs feedback from the community of collectors to provide that information.

Actually, there wasn't really a wiki style system when Brian was running the site. That happened after Brian gave it up. When Brian was running it, people would email in whatever text or images they wanted to submit, and he had to figure out where they went and to manually edit a flat file database system.

The new system we put in was a 'wiki' style system, but a moderated one (like wikipedia has for controversial topics etc). The challenge is that once corrections or additions went into a queue, they had to be approved. The majority of submissions are unusable in any form (more on this in another post in the next two weeks). From there, they got automatically either placed on line or put in an image editor queue.

The beauty of the new style wiki system we put in was that countless image editors (for example) could partipate at one time (and they do). The challenge is on the approval step. Since a single person approves entries, the number of people with that power was limited. It used to be several and is currently zero. It's incredibly time consuming. WebMagic used to pay a guy to work on approving submissions 4 hours a day. Last year this person moved and didn't want to do it anymore. There was already a backlog when he stopped and that backlog is currently thousands of entries. The system was not designed to be used by people that only approved a few submissions instead of tons and tons.

The first step was to do a little upgrade for VAPS (which happened in January), and the the message forums (which happened this month). A number of forum related items will keep us busy the first half of march, and a move of our hosting center will keep us busy the 2nd half of March. The next 6 weeks nothing new is scheduled, and then after that we are rewriting the wiki style system here so that the members can help with the backlog etc.

Tech section.. sub section: 1) monitors 2)board&roms 3)Everything esle.. 4 and 5 would be good just for 4) Vector 5) B&W

I'm tired of reading 2000000000 monitor questions.. this way, it would be easier for users to scroll other monitor questions before posting.

I wouldn't mind a console section, as some here don't care about those titles, and it would keep all the Wii/DS/PSP/360/PS3/NES/2600 stuff grouped together

I also would not mind a console section either... I don't have any arcade games, but still play my console games:D

Has there been any thought on Regional or Local club sub-sections???
I know it would probably be a pain in the butt for you guys, But it would
sure be helpful since the items we are dealing with are easier to pick up
a lot of the time.
Just a thought.
Keep up the good work.

Edit...
Another thought.
Perhaps there could be a Hot Topic Section.
How a topic might end up here in perpetual stickyness is A: Reply Count, or B: By vote.
A topic could be voted in or outdepending on voter feedback this would help prevent the
rehashing a of thing over and over, and also by being able to vote out. It would eventually be
populated by the top 20-50 or so issues.

How about "chat about religion/politics/sports" forums? Too many political/religious/sports-related threads in the anything forum.

An "adult" section for PG-13 type pics, so kids don't have access? A motorcycle forum I'm on has this, and it's not for porn, but say, if someone wanted to post pics of near nudity/bikini/whatever, it seems like a dedicated section that like that would be good...?

There's also a very cool chat plugin for VBulletin that I think everyone on here would dig... Same forum (RRZone) has it, and it didn't cost much, if anything, but is a very cool feature.

ABSOLUTELY! Get that console crap out of the arcade forums! :D;)

That's one of the big benefits of "social groups" if that ever gets re-implemented (it was turned on for a very short time after the upgrade). Check out CoinOpSpace.com if you want something like that in the meantime. Regional groups are one of the big strengths of that site.

-1. As much as I've learned to simply avoid the religion and politics threads entirely due to douchebaggery of some participants, I don't see a big reason to segregate it unless it's causing some sort of problem for admins or users. As much as I have interest in many such topics, I don't even click them to lurk. I just avoid them. Yeah, there are a lot of those threads at times, but unless traffic in the chat forum grows well beyond that of the general forum I say just leave it alone. It's easy to avoid the threads when you get in the habit of doing so. :)

Put up a limited access PG-13 section and push all the garbage political and religious posts there. ;) That'll end a lot of mess making by some members. It's easy to avoid them if they are in their own subsection.

A monitor subsection for the repair area would be great!
