i went out to the lake of the ozarks for the holidays and have many fond memories of the sweet strip on the damn with its awsome arcades
but this was my first trip out there since i learnd the ins and outs of arcade machines and i can say i am apalled with the condition of the games

they have 3 arcades on the strip i went to the frst one they had some good titles but nothing was to special and only half of the games even worked

the second arcade had some really god games , edot, gorf, space invaders pacman, mspacman, galaxan . my eyes lit up when i saw the edot droped in my quarter and stared a game arggggg the damn spinner didnt work , space invaders didnt work at all , and every other game they had either had a bad monitor (looked like waves on the screens) or the joysticks were so tore up it was like playing the game with a limp chain. the only game that was playable was the gorf and even it had the screen adjusted so bad that i could not see my life total or the name of the level at the bottom (i did blow the machines high score out of the water tho lol)

the 3rd arcade was flled with newer games mostly shooters and driving game's allong with a namco reunion but again every game i tried was toast gun games were miscalbrated race games had broken shifters or gas pedals it was such a shame

i even asked one of the arcade attendants if they had a tech he said the owner is the one that servises the games i just kinda laughed and walked off

i just dont understand how the owners even stay iin biz there was still plenty of people playing games there but you could tell that they were frustrated as much as me as most would play (attmpt to play lol)2-3 games and then leave
i mean even if you dont have much money commin in how hard is it to at least replace joysticks in the games so you can at least play ,as that was the majorty of the ishuses with the game's they just had sloppy loose unresponsive joys

anyone els here rember when this place was in its hey day and anyone been out there recently was i just unluck to get out there before the techs we able to repair the stuff or has it been that way for a while

for you out there in other states i dint bring my camera with me but ill be going out again in a few weeks ill be shure to get some pics then

Sounds like you need to rescue some of those games from the current owner. Find that guys number and see if he will sell. Give them the loving care they deserve.

A EDOT in the wild! In 2009. Amazing.

lol yea i wish i had enough money to do so lol esp want that disc of tron
its just funny how they have all the games there and cant even replace joysticks i mean even if they dont make a ton of cash joysticks are super cheap adn if the games had good sticks i would have dumped at least 50 $ there

I've been going there since I was a little kid and found the same thing you did condition wise the past few years.. I talked to the owner and he won't sell; claiming the bank holds the games as loan collateral, even though things have come and gone over the years.

The large arcade had a good line up of EM pins and games a few years ago, they even had a guy fix and shop several of them. After that, they were sold or traded off.

It wouldn't really take a huge chunk of change to make a big improvement in most of those, a cap kit or two a day and new joystick grommets, and you'd have a much improved arcade within two or three weeks. They could even make a smaller Midwest version like Fun Spot with a little marketing or at the least- pull more quarters from the parents longing for a nostaliga trip while their kids play the redemption stuff.

yea it is kinda sad i wonder what it would take to buy him out lol not that ill ever have that kind of cash

i can understand the bad monitors since the arcades are in an open air envinroment and the humidity would wreak havok on any elect machine its the joysticks that got me i just cant get past that fact

the larger arcade (dogwood or somthing like that ) did not have any pins excpt a termnantor and a indy jones and the only em they had was a huge boxing bag strength tester that was not working(the space invaders had a unlocked coin dorr and i even looked inside to see if i could get it working lol ,wish the gorf was open so i could have adjusted the monitor right )

now that im learned in arcade repair its kinda funny i found my self walikg up to a game and saying this needs a cap kit ,this nees a joystick ,this needs board work and then thinking wow i could spend 5 mins on this game and it wold be playable again

(man i need na new keyboard this new wireless one is crap lol)

I wanted to go there in Summer of 97 when I worked in MO b ut never made it. I need to go and get some tickets for my collection.
