any love for dk3???

I wish that Stanley got a follow-up game, like Mario did.

I like it now that I figured out that it is a shooter kinda like Galaga. I thought the only thing to do was try to push kong to the top, and that was boring.

decided to start playing the ole dk3 tonight and what a crazy game! pretty exciting! comments?

I like playing mine every now and then for its crazy action. Its not popular and has a bad rap, but I wouldn't sell my mine. Its a must though if you have DK and DK Junior. Definitely the oddball out of the bunch. Gotta have the trifecta!

It was also like Missile Command/Defender (defend the flowers) too. I just wish there was a level where the goal was different, like the rivet stage in DK or the Key Stage in DK Jr.

Also it would have been nice of there was an obstacle level. Maybe we could convince Jeff Kulczycki to work his magic and make some new levels! :D

My high is only 185,xxx , but I like it a lot. It's not near as hard as the other 2 games, so it's probably one of those games a novice player could pick up quite easily (and enjoy). On the other hand, my other DK games are much too hard for most non-arcade people to enjoy.

I think the biggest problem is everyone thinks of it as a DK game. If you think of it as a shooter that happens to include DK, you won't be as disappointed :D It's a really challenging game, especially once Kong starts throwing the coconuts on the regular levels.

This thread made me go back and play DK3 and not just force DK up and out. WOW what a different game! And DK starts throwing those coconuts on the second level if you kill off all the bugs in level 1! Wow hard!

OK so in level 1 you can kill all the bugs to go to the next level, but in level 2 if you wait too long red piranna plants come out and bite DK's hands an he drops down and kills you. So how do you complete level 2 without sending him up the rope?

On the boards with the piranaha plants you have to send him up. The other boards you can kill all the bugs. This board is sort of like the rivets of DK I think in that it ends the cycle of boards really.

I like the game, if it was called "Exterminator", "Bug Wars" or something, rather than DK3, folks would be singing its praises.

He always throws the coconuts on that board. If it wasn't for that, the board would be way too easy on the lower levels (with only 1 bug after you). But once you get a ways into the game (15? can't remember), he throws them on all boards.

The attack pattern of the bugs is very similar to Radar Scope, almost like it is Radar Scope with a DK skin. LOL

The level where he throws the coconuts is like the rivet level in DK. You push him to the top, he gets his head stuck and falls to the floor, just like in DK. The other levels he escapes, also just like in DK. Looks like the same progression of screens as in DK also, although I haven't gotten far enough in DK3 to know for sure.

A guy I buy from locally has been sitting on 4-5 of these for the past few months and I always wondered why. He sells DK1's like hotcakes,DKJ is is second best seller but no one seems to want the DK3's at all. Now I know why. I just watched a vid of the game in action and it does'nt look fun at all and seems repetitive from level to level. I'd like to own all three Dk's but I don't think I could stomach paying more than $200 for a working DK3,maybe even $200 is pushing it?

Just get a board and swap it in one of the other games when/if you want to play it, if you don't think it is worth buying the whole cab.. I think I paid $250 for my cab, but that was a while back. That is actually one of my most expensive games. I only paid $150 for the DK.

Thanks a lot guys. I didn't realize you could kill all the bugs in a level. I thought you had to shoot him to the top every time. Because of this tip, my new high score is 217,xxx. I think I can do quite a bit better too.
