Any issues with 48n1s and WG4600s?

I've got a 48n1 card that I know was working a couple of months ago. I've got it wired up to a WG4600 monitor. The video plugs are wired up as RGBE-- and ESS (R=Red, G=Green, B=Blue, E=ground, -=n/c, S=composite negative sync).

The problem I am having is that the video is going horizontal and I can't seem to dial it in using the HSynch pot and the horizontal coil and the VSync pot.

It worked great when I had it plugged into a positive sync source (Sinistar).

Just wondering if this is just one of those bad combos or if anybody has any tips.

make sure the ground wire with the video bundle is near the sync pin and not next to the R G B.

there might be a SLIGHT curl you wont be able to get out but any civilians wont notice it.

Thanks. I'd forgotten about that page.

I think I am going to have to pull the monitor so I can see what I am doing while fiddling with the knobs. It's mounted in a Galaga cabinet and there is just too little screen to view from the back & my arms are too short to turn the pots when I am looking at the monitor from the front. :(

Worst case, I'll have to dig out a different monitor. One that won't freak on negative sync.

Does your 4600 interface card have 6 pins or 9 pins? I've had no problems using it with the 9-pin versions....

It's the 9 pin version. I'm also wondering if the neg sync part of the board might be hosed. I may try a different set of boards in it. just to make sure.

This is the monitor I had in the Ms Pac when I was getting that cab running, so I know the monitor works. It just doesn't seem to like this 48n1.

Well if it was easy, anybody could do this, right?

Did you hook the sync to both the horizontal and vertical pins? The 4600 will need both.

And yeah, if you have another X/Y card, throw it in.

I just picked up eight 4600's, a 4900, and a G07 recently, so I'll be doing rebuilds and tube swaps soon myself..

easier the use a mirror hanging on the front and peering around from the back than taking out the monitor for adjustments.

4600's and 7000's are the only two that I find work the best with the 48 and 60in1 boards using neg sync. The XY board needs to have 9 pins like Mod said. GO7's and 4900's seem to have pincushion issues and curl problems.

Derpends on the chassis. I've had some G07's and 4900's with no problems at all...

Final Resolution: Always check the stupid things first.

I tried:
a) three different working 4600 boards, no go.
b) cutting the capacitor jumper per the Bob Roberts suggestion, no go.
c) I tried putting the card in my other JAMMA cabinet and the sync was way out there, but the Pentranic monitor did pull it in with some tweaking.
d) plugging the monitor into my Sinistar setup (positive sync), a little tweaking and it synced right up.
e) tracing the sync wire back to the edge connection, just in case. Nope, it was wired to the right connector.
f) out of frustration, tried continuity on the sync wire and WTF, no continuity.

I unsoldered the wire and tested the bare wire, no continuity. A very careful examination of the wire indicated a break in the wire about 1" from the JAMMA edge connector. :motz:!@#%#@^:motz:

So I cut it, stripped it, resoldered it and BAM the monitor synced up just fine. There is a slight curl on the top of the monitor (which is the right side since it is mounted as a vertical monitor) but it doesn't affect game play, so it will do for now.

Moral of the story, always check for the stupidest least likely thing first.

Thanks to everybody for their help and suggestions.

Can you explain how

Can you help me understand what you mean? I have one sync wire from the jamma harness do I split it? or is there another way you are referring to?
