I have a chance to borrow a Joust cocktail cabinet to make reproductions of it. Is there any interest in these? I've never saw a real one just pics, i know it's a unique side by side piece. No clue on price till i actually see one and figure out materials, etc.. let me know, thanks! Brett

Isn't the point to own something rare? I don't think anyone actually LIKES the actual cocktail ;) Although, as cocktails go - it does have one of the better layouts.

well, it may be something someone wants but cant find locally. Should be ups shippable in pieces. Wait till i get the EDOT done.. and errr umm Quantum!

MAME fans may like it due to the two CPs on one side if you're making empty shells.

I think I would actually be interested in this if it was UPS shippable with directions to put it together. The design would be perfect for one of my restaurants.

Quite a few people who have seen mine say they would like to have one for their homes as a multi or MAME based machine because of the design. If you plan to make it assemble like the original get ready for a lot of programming, lots of pieces in this little cab and lots and lots of cuts. You could just make it the same size and shape but easy to make and put together. Like I said though you will be surprised how much there is to one of these. Sounds cool though. :)

I can vouch that this is a very intricate cabinet with a lot of parts. I completely took mine apart and made one from scratch using the old as a template (with a few of the original parts). You can find the whole project from start to finish in a thread in the restoration showcase. It's not 100% true to the original, but you really can't tell from the outside. Only I know the modifications I did to it.

I own a joust cocktail so I have selfish interest "not" to see repro's made
(... just to be greedy and to maintain the modest value of mine),
but as many have pointed out, a similar-style side-by-side cab might
be very popular for MAME .

Now what I'd REALLY like to see is a repro monitor shroud for these puppies.

Because the monitor is slightly angled downward, the shroud is actually tapered
to compensate for the incline (it's about 4" deep at the top, and only 1.5" at the bottom).

I'm pretty sure it's unique to that game, and finding a replacement
is about as likely as finding a Jousting ostrich ! ;-)

Cheers,
Steph

Wow.... that's impressive !

The only "routers" I know how to operate are made by Cisco...

(... the IT guys will get that one... ;-)

Cheers,
Steph

I can say that the wiring is intense on these, and it is not something that is easy to do. The ones that have been converted to Mame rigs probably have the wiring hacked to shit.

Just an FYI tidbit... These take roughly 250 feet of wiring for the DC harness alone.

KillerKades, I DEFINATELY have an interest in getting the schematics from your reproduction Joust cocktail cab.....I've been wanting to make a repro. of that very same cab for some time now, but it looked very complex and I do not have access to an actual cab to work from.
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If you do make one, you may have to cheat a little and make the joystick areas deeper. My Joust CT was modified to allow regular 8 way joysticks by having the bottoms cut out and meat loaf pans (sprayed black) attached to cover the holes. AN ingenious but nasty looking hack.

I would be interested, I would have to look at the shipping costs, but even if you just did the plans that would be awesome. I would happily order some if I was on the mainland, but I do have to consider shipping to Hawaii :) Maybe a pallet of flat wood for assembly would not be so bad!

BTW if you do get enough interest, drop me a note so we can chat about getting the 1" textured Tmolding, if people wanted these it would be nice to do for originals and new ones.

I think this may be a good option to have if you were going to do this. Isn't the hardest part of fixing a Joust cocktail conversion finding the tiny little cocktail 2-way joysticks? It would be nice if you could at least fit in a regular Joust joystick....

Like I said, making a reproduction will be complicated. The control panel issue brought up is a good one, you can not put anything in there, no regular stick, trackball, spinner, etc.

The cabinet also has three sizes of wood, 3/4, 1/2, and 1/4. So many pieces, so much routering, so many angles. I know you have the equipment but it will be alot more work than you thought. I have done one myself, exact repro down to screw hole locations and every support/brace. I have all the wood done but still need to redo all the original metal parts to put it back together, just lost some steam after all the wood work and got involved in other projects.

Good luck, as I also said I think it would sell but it will have to be a Joust type cocktail.

edit: It also helped that I had one that was complete but needed to be ripped apart completely so I could exactly get every angle and groove.
