Any Interest in new repro Blank Space Duel, Gravitar, Black Widow type CPs???

I approached Takeman with the idea of a multi-vector panel to match the artwork in the thread linked below, but he wasn't sure the demand would be there. So to increase possible demand I mentioned that maybe the CP could be produced blank. That way one could make the holes in it as they see fit. The CP could then be used for Space Duel, Gravitar, Black Widow, or a multi-vector layout of your choice based on the CP from one of those games. So what kind of interest is there? The minimum run would need to be 25 panels pre-sold.

I would want it with the holes already punched as well. Certainly if people were to express interest in 25 or more of the panels with the holes cut like the multi-vector artwork, then it could be run that way. Probably not a big deal to get both quotes, but right now just finding out interest. Let me also ask this.....if not enough people want the panels with the holes pre-cut for the multivector, would you buy one without the holes?

I dont know if I'd buy a blank panel.... punching holes and lining up with
the artwork exactly is a real PIA.

I'm starting to work on a multi-vector... I'm deviating from the original artwork that is out there.

I will be putting a trackball on mine, and I'm adding a small analog stick (looking to get a commercial grade stick... similar form factor to the original) for tailgunner. I may forgo the spinner and use the trackball instead. I'm just not sure how good star trek and other segas would be with the ball instead of the spinner.

I first thought the blank panel would be perfect... I just don't have the punches to do the second op. so I'm not sure.

Electrical punches made by GreenLee and the like are awesome for game parts. All you need is a small pilot hole and the punch makes a nice hole. It can be driven by ratchet or air tools/impact-which I prefer.

I place the over on top of the panel (with backing on) tape it in place and use an awl or scribe and poke a small hole where you want to mount your buttons or whatever, but maek sure you make a mark in the panel. Remove overlay, drill pilot holes and punch them out. It pretty easy. What sucks is filling in used or unwanted holes from a converted panel, welding and grinding then adding bondo :(

OR...Some of the common holes everyone uses (and agrees on location) can be put in then the person can add their specialty holes.

I'll help anyway I can.........

Hmm...now I'm thinking... I do have access to a machine shop at work and they have a pretty decent set of GreenLee punches... Trackball hole would be a pain I think, that's a pretty big hole and I don't think we have any punches larger than 2"... if that.

I think what would work for me is the quantum type panel with just the trackball hole... nothing else... also for the quantum panel do you know if the trackball is as far as it can be to the front edge of the panel? I would like to pull the ball towards the user a bit if I could...

Yes, the Quantum panel has the track ball as far forward as it can go.
I've had people ask for that panel since I ran it. I could make another run possibly, if there was enough interest.

Hey guys,

It would be pretty straight forward to make a .dxf from the art file to have the new CPs Laser Cut or CNC turret punched.

Just remove all the art and leave the button holes with a stroke (aligned to the inside) of .05mm and save as .dxf (CAD2000). That would ensure correct fitment with the art.

:)

I'd buy a blank one.

or, even better,

A new Major Havoc control panel to fit Space Duel cabinets, but with a rectangular cutout for a roller controller in place of the hole for the spinner.

That's how I got the holes for the joysticks done. I was amazed how quick and easy it was.

I'd take one with holes to match multi vector artwork

I don't think there is any real way to have the project work perfectly for everyone who wants this shape of panel. In talking with Takeman it sounded like we could do one design with holes punched and then have a blank panel option. Otherwise, custom this and custom that will make things too complicated and expensive and significantly increase the chances of someone being unhappy with the panel they receive. The multivector panel is the one I would vote for with holes punched, because it has the most interest and the most holes.

So far it sounds like possible interest in 8 panels or so. 25 Needed so pass the word. I'm not on any other forums so if someone else is and knows of people considering multivectors, they would be a good target audience.
