I'm working on getting caught up on all my outstanding orders, and have been kicking this idea around. New cabinets with artwork installed, bare edges painted like the factory did, around vent holes etc, and T-molding installed.

I was thinking materials + reasonable labor for the added service. Not sure how many people would take me up on it, but it would make it so most people would just have to refinish thier metal parts, and transfer parts from one cabinet to the next. Would make restorations alot faster for sure. Any thoughts?

I think this would be a great service to offer. I really think you need to go one step further. For example you could offer Q*bert with black pica vinyl on the front and around the monitor and the cabinet already painted yellow... I'd say this is at least a $150 premium.

heh 150.00 may not even cover the cost of paint and vinyl! I was thinking more along the lines of cabinets i do in Melamine, where they are already black and white for the most part. I have John painting for me still (when he gets caught up!) and even 2 color jobs are 200 - 250.00 depending on colors. Automotive paint is not cheap unfortunately!

Pica vinyl is expensive and Oil Based Interior paint is pricey so I agree.. $150 might not even cover material.

we don't use house paint to paint games :)

I've never gotten results that I was happy with unless I used auto paint. My thought was like Atari cabinets.. spray the bare areas black, full sideart install, and t molding. You would be looking at cab + art + t molding, and 75.00 labor for the extra service, and you'd have a mint game to install parts in.

I think this would be a great venture. My Ms Pac/Galaga/Frogger multiboard is in a repro finished Ms Pac/Galaga cab (half the art from each) I got in like 2001 and I must say, fully-finished repro cabs are awesome. I might even be interested in one soon if a board purchase on hold right now ends up working out... and yes, auto paint is CERTAINLY the way to go, and it's awesome that you go the extra mile to do that for your customers.

$75 might be too cheap but then again... Your already making $$$$ off the cabinet sale before these services. I'd think someone would be interested in this!

I know alot of people don't have the equipment or area to paint, or know how to use a spray gun. I do plan on doing painted and stenciled cabs out of the house. I just got a ingersol Rand 60 gallon 5 horsepower compressor 2 stage. I am also building a downdraft spraybooth to vent outside so I can do this.

I am also looking into a 36" vinyl cutter to make my own stencils too. I just don't know a ton about them, I understand the process though. If anyone has bought stencils, and all the auto paints and primers for a mspac, they know how much it costs.

I don't care how much it costs to get a stenciled Ms Pac ready for parts. When you have one ready, you let me know. I have Paypal funds waiting.

I know exactly how much time and effort it was going to take me to completely restore my Ms Pac, and I'd much rather pay to have it done.

Consider me 'in line' for a Ms Pac.

I really like the idea but I think it may come down to your location. Are you near a major city or maybe a couple cities? Not sure if people would be willing to pay for shipping on top of the cost, which sounds like it's going to be high. Not trying to discourage but you got to keep the cost down as much as possible especially if shipping out.
