25" Medium Resolution Monitor

I have a dedicated War Gods and wanted to convert it into a MAME machine since I really like the cabinet and mine is in excellent shape. However, the monitor is a medium resolution monitor and I would prefer to have a tri-sync monitor in there. So wanted to see if anyone would be interested buying the 25" medium resolution monitor if I was to sell it. I can get all the monitor info and take more pics if anyone is interested, but figured I would ask first since I don't see many for sale. I imagine shipping on these is pretty expensive and wasn't sure if anyone needed these medium resolution monitors anymore since they are not used in most games. I owned the machine since 1999 and probably played it no more then 20 times, so the monitor has a very nice picture and no burn-in since it was not used that much.

Thanks in advance.

Im close and interested. Do you know what brand it is or the chassis number?

I believe it is a U5000 since the board says P738. It's the original monitor that came in the War Gods and all the stickers (serial numbers) match those of the cabinet.

I apologize, but now I might have to hold off on selling the monitor. I have been out of the arcade hobby for a while and been focusing on my pinballs for the past few years. As I mentioned before I got this game in 1999 and really never played it. War Gods itself is not the greatest game, but I loved the cabinet and planned on making it a MAME someday. However, I never got around to doing it and finally decided to give it a shot. So that is why I considered selling the monitor.

After a few people showed interest in my monitor today I started to look around and see what a new monitor would cost to replace it with. WOW, I cannot believe you cannot find 25" CRT's anymore. Everything now is either widescreen or flatscreen. I wanted to keep my War Gods machine looking stock and I am sure the 27" and 29" are nice, but I wasn't expecting to have to spend $500. When did it become difficult to get CRT monitors? From searching around today I seen the WG no longer makes CRT monitors (not sure when that happened) and I wasn't sure if that is why it has become more difficult to find CRT's. I was surprised to not even see that many on ebay too.

In my searching I found that a U5000 is switchable from 25hz to 15hz, so I might just keep this monitor and put it in 15hz mode since that is the resolution of the majority of games I play on MAME. I never tried the 15hz mode on this monitor and honestly never knew it existed until today, so who knows if that will really work as advertised. But I am going to move the connector over to 15hz and give it a shot. I have a MK board that I can test in there and see if it really works on standard resolution.

Again, I apologize and didn't expect for this to happen. My plans were to see if I could sell this monitor and then pick up a new one, but didn't realize CRT's are not readily available anymore unless you want to spend $500. Goes to show how things can change over a few years and how "out of the loop" I am.

Tease...;) yeah, you're smart to keep it. They can be tough to come by.

Who would have thought CRT's would be hard to come by?? I used to have over 20 arcade games and they were all mostly Midway's from the 1990's+, so most had 25" CRT's. Since MAME came out I slowly started to sell the collection and get more pinball machines. I remember monitors were everywhere and not that uncommon to find, so this really came as a surprise to me. Guess the days of CRT's are long gone.

I moved the 2 connectors on the U5000 and it works great as a standard resolution monitor. I have MK4 in there and it plays great. Nice thing about the War Gods cabinet is the extra button harness plugs right into the MK4 board, so the LP,LK, and run worked too without any modifications.

So again, I apologize and didn't mean to be a tease. I guess I should have done my homework first before posting, but figured these CRT's were easy to come by. If anything I learned something new about my monitor that I was not aware of over the past 12 years I owned the machine.

lol. I use a U5000 as my tester monitor with my supergun, I just had it rejuved, went through the whole process of white balancing and shit. though I'll probably never run this one in medium res ever again, it's a nice option to have.

do you know if all the service updates have been installed on yours? lots of people knock the U5000, but IMO I've had more problems with the K7400/K7500 replacements than I ever did with a U5000. just saying. unfortunately the Zenith tubes they shipped with are GARBAGE, hence the rejuve.

How would I know if the service updates have been installed? I doubt they were since I got the machine a few years after it came out and everything looks untouched. You can tell it wasn't played that much and the cabinet looks brand new. What are the issues with the U5000? Are they likely to surface in home use just being played now and then? The monitor has a beautiful picture and here is a quick shot with my cell phone of MK4 and Wrestlemania .

I have a U5000 that is currently my test bench monitor and a U2000 in my KI. Lots of people have problems with them but they have worked great for me. I think you can still get the upgrade/update kits from Wells-Gardner direct.
