I was just looking at the Klov database for Hyper Sports and noticed that there is not a section for all the bonus point tricks that you can do. I wrote this up a while ago and I was going to submit it, but I just wanted some other Hyper Sports experts to look thru and make sure I got everything. Let me know what you think

Bonus Point Tricks - Each event featured opportunities for bonus points:

Swimming - If you tie the computer in the race, a frog comes up out of the water and gives you 3,000 pts.

Skeet Shooting - If you shoot every disc, the final object will be a white ghost. Shooting this white ghost with the RIGHT button will give you a 3,000 point bonus. Shooting this ghost with the LEFT button will give you a 3,000 point bonus AND will bring out a flying bird. Every time you hit the bird you are awarded 1,000 additional points. If you shoot every disc on your second attempt, the white ghost will be worth 4,000 pts... but this time, shooting the ghost with the LEFT button will give you just the 4,000 point bonus, while shooting the ghost with the RIGHT button will give you the 4,000 point bonus AND will bring out the bird for additional 1,000 point opportunities. Shooting every disc on your 3rd attempt will give you the white ghost for a 6,000 point bonus. Just like on the first attempt, shooting this white ghost with the RIGHT button will only give you the 6,000 point bonus, but shooting the ghost with the LEFT button will once again bring out the flying bird for the additional 1,000 point opportunities. Total potential bonus scores for the first round of the Skeet Shooting are: 17,200 (1st attempt), 18,200 (2nd attempt) and 20,200 (3rd attempt). Also, hitting two discs at the same time (one in the left box and one in the right box) will give you 500 points rather than the 100 points total you would get for hitting them individually. Doing this will alter the above scores (17,200, 18,200, and 20,200) slightly.

Long Horse - If you do 1/2 of a flip and land on your head an object comes down and gives you a 3,000 bonus. NOTE: This will not qualify you for that attempt so only do this if you have already qualified.

Archery - On your first attempt, if you get all bulls-eye shots (600 pts) for a total of 4,800 pts, you will receive a 3,000 point bonus. 3 apples will then come out. Each hit on the apple will give you 1,000 additional points. Doing the same on your 2nd attempt will give you a 4,000 point bonus and the 3 apples. All bulls-eye shots on your 3rd attempt will give you a 6,000 point bonus and the 3 apples.

Triple Jump - If your first jump is touching the line and you get the angles 35, 41, 45, a plane will fly across the top of the screen and give you 3,000 pts.

Weight Lifting – If you press both run buttons simultaneously when the barbell hits the ground, a bunch of cheerleaders will pop up and give you 1,000 additional pts. You can do this on your 2nd attempt for an additional 1,000 pts.

Pole Vault - If you hit the base directly with the pole (no skid across the base) and make it over, a gopher will come up out of the ground and give you 1,000 points. If you do this consecutively, the gopher will continue to give you bonus points of 2,000, 4,000, 8,000, 8,000, 8,000 etc., etc. If you miss a vault or if you don't get it directly into the back of the base, the gopher will not come out and then will start the count back over at 1,000 points the next time you get it perfect.

NOTE: If you perform these bonus point tricks on the Swimming, Tripple Jump, or Pole Vault and also achieve a World Record at the same time, you will not recieve your bonus points.

Very cool info - Knew about some of these, but did not realize there were so many. Gotta go try them out when I get home :D Thanks for posting.

It warms my heart to see your trip to my place inspired you bro.

looks good, though in the skeet shooting I shoot the bird with my left side and get the extra bird to shoot everytime. doesn't matter what level it is.

My best is 14,200, guess I don't shoot the bird fast enough, lol.

This is a game I love and I emailed twin galaxies about trying to beat the world record.
Right now, my best is about 280,000 or so, but my buttons suck.

Yeah and I hate that shit when you stick the pole vault but set a world record and don't get your bonus.

Nice list...I wasn't aware of most of them. My experience with Hyper Sports is limited and I suck. I have a hard time with everything after skeet shooting. I'm trying to practice, just wish I had a dedicated cabinet and didn't have to swap boards between it and T&F to play it.

I suck ass at it. I've had mine for about a week and can only get ~43,000. The archery is what kicks my ass. Any rule of thumb there?

you need 4.9-5.2 for the proper depth.

I can consistently hit 4.8-5.0 but I'm talking the release time. when/how do you know when to release the arrow? I've qualified once and I'm convinced it was pure luck.

Next thing - the long jump - wth??? Do you have to jump before the white line and then AT the white line and then after or what?

Haha.. yes it did!... those kids I was playing on Saturday were really good at it. It's nice to know that some 12-13 year olds are really into Track & Field and Hyper Sports.

My best is 330,000 with continue ON and 111,000 with continue OFF. I thought that the 330,000 was good, but there are some dudes out there that can put up over 500,000. Thats just insane!!!

here is how I time it. when you are getting to choose whether it is wind direction down or wind direction up, I always choose wind direction down.

Then when the bullseye has passed the edge of the screen as it passes down I try to time it. typically when I have wind direction going down, I wait for the red part of the bullseye to pass the edge and then push.

anyway, that may not make sense, in any event look for a part of the bullseye to pass a section of your choice of the screen and start timing it.

I can never pass the Long Horse level. What the hell do you have to do on it? I love track & field, one of my fave games. But that Long Horse level always screws me over on Hypersports, what's the proper way to pass it?

it's pretty easy, once you got the hang of it.

you don't need to run on this one, you just tap run, and when your guy it about on the little trampoline you hit jump, then after he contacts the long horse, wait about 3/4 of a second for him to pick up some momentum towards the landing area, and tap run as fast as your can on both buttons, then try to make him land in an upright position.

Alright, I'll give it a try when I get home! Thanks tronguy..I never really looked into how to pass that level properly haha..

I would always hit the button when he hit the horse, that's why it wouldn't work right...

@TronGuy thanks for the tips. I think practice seems to be the only true way of getting past the Archery heh. I actually changed the dip switch to easy level just so I could actually practice to get better ;)

I found the long horse level tough as well. Your top speed is 1100 so time the jump to happen at the very end of the spring board which will shoot the guy to the end of the long horse. Now watch his body (this takes timing) as his body flips hit UP again. You'll notice a better time to hit up (trial and error) which will cause him to get further across the spring board. The further he gets into the air allows more time for you to spin him.

I'm stuck on the Triple Jump now. Any helpful hints?
