Ok, LAST chance to win an Any Coin Mech!....

This one might be a bit challenging, and will require a computer with Windows on it (Sorry Mac Users).

The person who scores the most points on FrostByte Freddie (My Modernization of Pengo) by 6/15/2011 at Midnight (AZ time).

Rules:

1) Game must be in Tournament mode
2) Tournament code to be used is 02084
3) You must post a screen shot of the last screen (it will give you instructions on how to do a screen shot)
4) In the unlikely event that there is a Tie, those Tied will have 24 hours to submit a new score. Repeat as necessary.

There is a manual installed with the game.

To get into tournament mode, run the game, and when at the attract screen, press the TAB key.

Next select "Options"

Then set "Tournament Mode" to "Yes"

The other section you may want to adjust is the Player Options. You can chose which keys do what. If FBF seems hard to control (way too fast), then go into Player Options and set the Key Speed to something like 145 (defaults is 45).

Press 3 will add a coin. Pressing 1 will then start a Player 1 game.
Default keys are the Arrow Keys, and Left CTRL key for Push.

Don't feel bad if you don't score very high. In tournament mode, the game is VERY hard.

If this becomes too much of a pain for everyone, I may cancel this contest and try something else, but I think this should be a lot of fun :D

What about the default settings for number of lives and at how many points you get an extra man? Can we set it up for max amount of lives and extra man at every 5000 pts?

That wont make a difference when in Tournament mode. Tournament mode controls all those settings, plus a lot of things that you cannot change in the game.

Tournament Mode has the following settings:

  • 5 Lives to Start
  • No Extra Men
  • AI Level is Hard (levels 1 - 4).
  • SnoBees start pushing blocks at Level 3.

Here are some scores to shoot for :D

Here is what the End Tournament screen looks like:

Just an FYI i the f12 for screen shot just gave me an 'illegal memory address error' on a Win7 box and closed out of the program...might wanna snap a pic before trying this

I had 29,xxx..I have no real need for the coin mech..game is pretty damn hard!

Hehe. Nice to see you discriminating against people that don't have Wintel PC's...

:D

I'll have to see if I can get this to run under WINE tonight.

(Of course, I'm just giving you a hard time, I already won a contest, but still. There are lots of people out there that do not use or have Windows machines).

I'm nowhere near any of those scores. It also seems to be behaving strangely on my netbook. Most times I push the indestructable blocks, Pengo teleports to the other side of it and I squish myself.

This might be due to UAC as it works fine on my machine (Win7 64bit Ultimate) as I have UAC turned off.

You can try running the game as Administrator.

Yes, that can happen. Its a "Feature". You can get trapped under slow moving blocks.

I would bet it would run fine in WINE. The system requirements of the game are very low (It was written ~10 years ago...)

Since no one posted any scores, here is my lame attempt. My high score is actually 8550 but I didn't get a pic of that.

Just takes practice. I would stay close to a wall, it's safer then being out in the middle. You'll want to crush the blocks that flash red at the start of the level. Those have power ups and in some cases an Instant Kill (ends the level killing everything).

Ok, here are a couple tips to help you score higher.

1) If you are facing a wall, the SnoBees will avoid going near it unless they are directly behind you. If they are directly behind you, you better move :D. Use this to your advantage to help you get away from them.

2) You can lure SnoBees (the Orange and Green ones and higher) down along the wall, then freeze them. You can get REALLY BIG points by squishing multiples at a time. The Amount is calculated as: Points = (3^N) * 100. So if you were to crush 5 at one time (which is very possible), that there is 24,300 points. If you crush 10 at one time (I have done this, but is rare), that's 5,904,900 points.

3) If you exit the game and start the game over (in Tournament Mode), you will get the same exact game over again. So all the locations of Power Ups, Sno Bees, etc... will be in the same exact spot. This only works from the first time the game is started. If you start a second game, it won't have the same results.

4) If you know where the Instant Kill is, go get it right away. That's an Easy 16K points.

5) Lightning blocks are hard to get, but can give a lot of points and help finish the level (since all the Snobees get stunned). Lining them up DIAGONLY is the most points. Vertical or Horizontal OFF the wall is the next best. Vertical or Horizontally along a wall is the least amount of bonus.

6) If a block is along a wall, kicking the wall can cause the block to be pushed off the wall as long as it's path is not blocked. This is very useful for lining things up OFF the wall.

Guess this contest wasn't that exciting.. :(

Well, one person entered with the correct code, so I guess they win.

I thought it was great but I already won a different contest so I didn't officially compete. Plus when I put up a high score and it said press F12 to copy or whatever, I did so and nothing happen. Pretty sure my high score was 90 some thousand. It was definitely fun playing and I'm sure I will continuing playing in the future.

When you hit F12, it puts a BMP in the program folder. Its pretty big so I always had to use Paint to make it a JPG to make it smaller before upload.

And also it seems that each time it takes a screenshot, it overwrites the old on in there.
