I have been spending some time with Vs. Clu Clu Land (thank goodness for MAME), and must say its a fun game. Its funny, as a kid I always wanted to play this game on the NES cause I thought the box art was so cool:

(dont ask why now).

Its a puzzle game that is challenging as hell (as well as are the controls at first), but there is also action/shooting/killing enemies involved. Im starting to get hooked on it. If you havent played it, check it out. I think Im definitley going to try and piece together a chipset for my Vs PCB for this little gem.

Anyone else a fan?

I'll let you know later tonight. :)

I was starting to work on this one over the weekend.

Nice. Post a vid when you get a chance. The music/sound is straight 80s Nintendo goodness.

Its a tough game though.

I too always wanted, but never owned this game. The same goes for many official NES titles. Gyromite, Urban Champion, Kid Icarus. I don't know what it was about those silver or black boxes with the superimposed blocky graphics, but direct official NES releases were the bomb. Metroid is still one of my favorite NES boxes.

I agree. I like the fact that they didn't cover up the pixels or try to make it look like it was more than it was. And, now, it's a style. An 8-bit retro style. Cool beans.

I finally played Gyromite with R.O.B., the Nintendo robot, about a year ago. I had wanted R.O.B. since I was a kid and I finally had it. After spending about 15 minutes "playing" the game I was sadly let-down by its crappiness. :)

Hahah, cause its too hard? Or, are you not into puzzle games?

Jess - those look like rupees, and the enemies look like the ones from Zelda. Cool, for sure.

Alot of people don't like Clu Clu Land , the name alone used to piss off some of my friends .

This is a big time personal favorite of mine. I can remember having my grandma buy it for me from Children's Palace. I even remember the price, $23. Sometimes my memory is scary good. I miss Children's Palace, they had everything, but that's why they went out of business probably as well. They had brand new NES games from 86 and 87 in like 91-92. At that point, there was nowhere to find those games, yet they had whole racks of them sitting there. I also remember Woolworth's having a little NES section as well, just a case but full of games you only saw there.

I just played it on my Red Tent. It's actually pretty challenging. That little guy is hard to control! :)

It's cool. You have to swing around posts to reveal gems that shape to form an object. Great game. One of the better hidden gems on the VS. for sure. I had no problem kicking Battle City off of a PCB for Clu Clu land! :)

I loved all those original NES games..I have them all boxed in mint condition in my console collection..including the super rare dkjr math version...probably one of the harder ones to find still boxed....some of the other titles that were licensed under nintendo by other companies were cool too...Ninja kid..Chubby Cherub...by Bandai
I still have my original nintendo 8-bit system with original box..robot...and all the fixings...man those were some good memories..with game time spent on those..
