I have a 20 foot by 15 foot basement arcade.

Looking for carpeting, something retro that you might have found in the beloved Spaceport Arcades of the 80s.

Any ideas and sources?

Thanks

Spaceport just had the thin commercial loop weave with variations, similar to image below.

It was also mounted up the walls (in most locations) to absorb sound and did a good job.

Also, blacklight carpet is neat but be sure you aren't sensitive
to prolonged exposure to UV light.

yea that..I went with Starz.....with the proper light it pops kick azz.....

And I got the mardis gras and couldn't be happier. One cool thing (although certainly not the primary reason I got it) is the repeating pattern isn't obvious to the eyes like it is with many other patterns.

you can see mine in the last shot of this video.. stars kick ass and its bright under the blacklight!

How bout carpet tiles? I'm looking for those.

Mine doesn't look retro but this is what I did. Carpet tiles were easy to put down and did not require me to empty the room ahead of time. Plus they are rugged and I can replace a tile or two easily if something damages a spot.

I picked up enough 3x3 foot squares to do my room for $100 from a place advertising on CL that clears out industrial buildings. Came out pretty good I think but...yeah....not really retro.

Hmmm, sounds like a nice way to go. Can you post some pictures of it?

I was thinking about going with a black light carpet as well, but since my basement also has a living room area with the biggest tv in the house, we are down there quite a bit. I decided I probably wouldn't want to look at wild and crazy designs every single time I am down there, so I ended up just going and getting carpet off the roll at Home Depot. I found a nice brown carpet that was on clearance for like $0.65 a foot. My basement is close to 700 sq ft, and I got the whole room carpeted, padded, and installed for about $1000.
