Any Batman Dark Knight owners/previous owners here?

I have a friend of mine that's looking for a BDK and was wondering if anyone here owns or has owned one and how much you liked it (taking into consideration of the latest code also, to be fair)? I don't always go by the reviews on IDPB because there are too many people that bash machines after a few plays or in a lot of cases, they haven't played it and just throw up bad numbers (my opinion). Also, some games are over-inflated by art ratings rather than actual gameplay (CV is a good example, and I think it has a love/hate art package, and I hate the art on it).

I have played this title before and it didn't strike me as a pin I wanted to own, but it most likely did not have the latest code and the machine was not maintained at all.

On a side note, if you know of a nice one for sale that you'd like to pass on, let me know also. Located in Florida.

I have never owned it, but I have played it extensively on location. I really like the game, if is very fun, the crane is cool, as with many of the newer Stern games the toys are a bit cheesy. Mainly the Joker. But I do enjoy the game and considered buying one. Ultimately I ended up with Spiderman, but BM is very cool.

Good Old Batman!

Owned one, NIB last June. Also bought a NIB Iron man at the same time. The Iron man is still here (with its brother Spiderman), Batman is long gone.

Also, another friend in this hobby, local guy, did the same thing - NIB BDK and IM, with the IM staying (next to his spidey!) and the BDK long gone.

Its not a bad game at all, just In my opinion not as good as the IM or SM it was next to.A part of me misses it - but not enough to bring it back.

The pros are definitely that crane. I miss that toy - it randomly spans the board, and with a shaker, is quite fun to hit. One of the best toys on a pin.
I liked the skill shot, and the multi ball sequences are great and get you ramped up.

The cons?
The software. Even the latest version, feels so "hokey". They made this serious pin and the software was very cartoony and the modes were all the same - no variety. Trust me here - the software hurts the game alot. Also, the actors on the playfield and backglass drives me mad!

The other toys on the Pin were very weak too - the tin can joker is a huge waste of space and does nothing (and not very attractive when open, i mean its a 10 dollars joker action figure held on with wire ties). The mini playfield ruins any game they put that on (ball rolls into a mini playfield, hits rubber posts - thats it?). And the teeter totter on the left side does nothing except transfer the ball from the rear to the front with delay and little fanfare.

The shot layout was good - very memorable and fun.

So in summary, its the software i think that hurts the game, and the toys are less than stellar. If your friend is in the mkt. for a Stern pin, I would strongly advise on a Iron Man or Spiderman - they are superior titles, feel more completed.

The previous post is really a great summary of the game. I'll slightly disagree about the new software being hokey - I personally think it took out the majority of hokey/lameness.

But I also highly agree with IM or SM being better choices for super hero themed games. SM is miles better than IM IMHO and is vastly gaining in price and popularity so if a person wants one the quicker they buy the better off.

My cup of tea may not be yours. Seek them out and put some REAL time on both and see if either trips your trigger. I do think BTDK is a great game for the money but the artwork is truly "meh" and very typical of what Stern has been releasing for quite a while now. The pf layouts almost look/feel cookie cutter to me anymore.

Same exact thing w/ me, dude! Bought BDK and IM simultaneously...BDK was gone after 3 months.

It's fun to hit the crane, and the software is relatively deep, but it feels more like a chore to play than the other deep games (TSPP & LOTR), which feel lively and adventuresome.

I think the main thing that kills BDK for me is the way they used the theme. Batman Begins & Dark Knight are great movies, and they really didn't pull from them enough. The other Stern licensed games really put you into the story and characters pretty well....but BDK has really lame voice overs that barely attempt to sound like the movie characters, there are a bunch of elements like Rachel and Harvey Dent that have ZERO voiceovers or storypoints....no Two Face! C'mon! I know WB didn't allow them access since they were keeping Two-Face a secret...but, it sucks.

At the end of the day it's a respectable game, but compared to others of the same era/price range, I'd recommend something else.....but, that's not to say someone wouldn't really enjoy it. We all look for different things in games.

Rare - yeah - when i posted the BDK FS we had some communication over on RGP (AFM_TZ). Three like minded guys with similar results (IM / BDK) go figure.

I agree absolutely with your comments surrounding the theme - thats how i meant the software (hokey is what i called it!). They could of done so much more with it. At this stage, it would need to be an overhaul, and i am not sure its gonna happen.

I think if they just stuck to serious tone, better voicesovers it would have rocked. I recall years ago before i got my First Stern - someone explaining that what makes a Stern a Stern is more the software implementation than anything. The more i play them the more i see it.
