Not to open a can of worms...but... I was wondering if anyone has spoken or emailed with Steve at AS about when to expect a new update. I was expecting some updates a few months back when he stated that some multiple updates where in the works.

Personally I think he is through updating now that the board has been bootlegged. The updates weren't very regular even before the knockoff board appeared.
If you expect NO new updates, you'll find it easier not to be disappointed.

It would be nice, but with regard to "bootleg boards", I would assume that the ones that are being sold (cutting him out of the deal) are probably the exact same boards from the manufacturer that he contracted to do the production. If he is having them made overseas, then this should be expected. There is NO loyalty or respect for other's hard work when it comes to Asian manufacturers. If that is what has happened, then Steve should have been EXPECTING this to happen, and I am VERY surprised that it didn't happen sooner.

I have seen them on here for $265. If they were "bootlegs" or copies, then I would have expected that they would sell for closer to what the other in-1 boards are selling for. Less than $200 for sure...

I would love to see some updates, but I have kind of given up myself.

Who does his programming? He ought to make it open source, then they'll be tons of updates and in the long run he'd probably sell a lot more boards, personally I can't justify spending as much as $375 for something that only supports what it does now and gets like 2 or 3 updates a year.

If this were the case I believe Steve would not keep the update message the same.

I wouldn't even mind paying a small fee for updates or even an annual maintenance fee to have access to updates if that would help with a regular update schedule.

I owned this board since 05 and I have been very happy to have gotten as many updates as I have.

I work in IT and it is very common practice to charge a annual maintenance fee for access to updates and enhancements for 10-15% of the purchase price per year (This covers the hardware as well). This has proven to be a solid revenue stream for the industry. Of course for this fee I would expect a pretty solid schedule for releases and updates.

Just my .02

I would gladly pay a maintenance or update fee if the updates were something I was interested in. However, Pac n pal and vertical VS. games dont quite cut it.

The word from Clay was that the programming for the board was difficult and limiting for some reason. He thought no one would really be interested in doing it for free. I don't really see what they have to lose by releasing the code and making it open source.

If AS ever decides to stop paying or doing updates I would hope this would be the route they would go. I am sure that Open Source would produce some very cool updates.
