I'm accepting a position within my current company that will move me to the Salt Lake area. So I'll be moving from KY to Utah sometime in the near future. I have 23 games at the moment. Anyone have any experience moving across the country with so many games?

I'm thinking I can sell everything but my games. I can always buy new everything once I get to Salt Lake. lol!

I'll probably be able to take my time moving. I'll probably work there for a few months before I actually have to move.

A lot of guys who have many games to move decide to pair down the collection to "keepers only". Not only will it free up some space and give yo0u some more Funds for the move, but it also means you can hunt more games down in your new location!

Reduce the menagerie to the best of the best and then pack the space you just freed up with booze. It is a pain in the ass to try and get anything alcoholic to drink in SLC.

PS: You can also rent a UHaul and load it with games to drive one way fairly reasonably and then work out a route that will let you haul games for KLOVers for a fee along the route to pay for the truck.

If your doing it yourself, lots of blankets and ratchet straps.

Look for a truck with air ride suspension. Also ask for RAIL LIFT. Not all liftgates on rental trucks are good.

Guess I'll subscribe to and monitor this thread as we are considering a move to So Cal in the near future. I only have 10 games, but the plan is to leave a few with family/friends (temporary storage), keep my pin (it must go everywhere we go!), and cull the remaining herd (heck, it only took me 1 year to acquire them). FS thread coming soon...

Moved twice across the country. I pared down the collection both times with non-essential games that I could repurchase in the future.

Wrap each game thoroughly. Instead of packing the games together, separate them with clothing boxes (or other non-fragile boxes). Unless you have a TON of blankets to put between the games and waste space, the games will rock each other and cause some damage. Its inevitable because of the long haul roads.

Best of luck to you!

I most definitely will pair the collection down. Hopefully, I can keep most of them. I was told that I had a 15K budget that would be picked up by the company. I'm still waiting for that in writing. lol.

ABF freight has trailers that are for home owners to load and unload them self. They are called U PACK . If you go that way make sure you have help they do not have lift gates but they do have nice folding ramps. I would also go to your local Goodwill and buy lots of cheap blanks, for your games. It will save you a crap load of money. The trailers are 28 foot long 8 foot wide. I have hauled a lot of them and the people always seemed to be happy at what it cost them.
