why is satans hollow so rare? or is it?

why do people want star wars? just because its star wars?
whats monitor is supposed to be in a starwars upright?

I like satans hollow, I think its my favorite classic shooter hands down. Don't know if its rare.

I want a star wars because its a color vector and I think the game play is awesome. And I hate star wars.. lol

I think Satans hollow is rare after 8 years of collecting Ihavnt had the opertunity to get one.
Star wars just plain says 80's arcade and is a classic.
The correct and most desireable monitor for star wars is the Amplifone.

satans hollow is somewhat rare. I have seen only a few for sale in 25+ years. As for desirable, I would not go that far. Yes, people look for it, but its not like a tron..

As for Star wars, you must not have grown up and played games in the arcades in the 80's. If you did you would not have to ask. Great game tied to a good movie. Star wars would be a great game even without the movie tie in.

19" amp in the upright 25" amp in the sitdown. anything other than that is wrong..

+1 (this placed here to make my message long enough to send)

I think the current interest in satan's hollow is due to collectors sites like this one where fans of the game talk it up. Not that it's a bad game but I never played it BITD. Didn't even hear of the game until a couple of years ago. As mentioned it's somewhat rare. I would guess it's rarity is due to it's lack of popularity BITD which meant lower production numbers.

As for star wars, It seems most people loved it BITD and have great memories of the game. I for one never cared for it.

Never played Satans Hollow but I love the look of the cab. It just looks nice in a dark arcade.

I'm a Star Wars nut so that was enough made me want a SW. However, there are many more reasons to own one. The color vector monitor is just awesome. The controller is amazingly smooth and I find it to be highly accurate. The cabinet is 100% cool with the plastic bezel, front art, full side art. It was the first game to use digitized voices, and they actually sound good. You can add the SW/ESB multi-game kit to make it 2 games in 1. The fact that it has a cockpit version as well with a 25" color vector in it, is just icing on the cake.

leme guess the amplifones are hard to come by?

whats a suitable replacement?

whats the production numbers on the satans hollow?

the replacement is the wells. As for suitable, I would say its ok. It does not display the detail the amp monitor can.

Don't think there are known production numbers for SH. there are 75 collectors on klov listing tapper. 63 listing SH. I think people have suggested a number of 3500 for tapper.

the best way to guess its production is to compare it to another game of known production and similar desirablility. a game like food fight has a known production of 1951 Uprights and 100 cocktails. Klov shows 62. I think food fight is a little more popular game so more people would work to save it.

So I would guess SH production to be 2500-3000.

I've had the chance to buy a few Satans Hollows, probably 2 of them for around $250 working...

I didn't know it was so rare, or even that it was supposed to be fun or I would have picked one up. I do know when a group of my friends and myself were looking to buy an arcade game together (this started the fever for myself and my friend) we saw one on ebay and none of us had heard of it, jointly decided it was cursed and it became an inside joke from that day.

The Amplifone replacement is the Wells-Gardner 6100... as for the Amps... they're nice but over-rated. Frankly, none but the most anal among us (of which myself and Mr. Bill are members) wouldn't/couldn't tell the difference between the two.

Satan's Hollow is fun. And very challenging with a lot more decision making and strategy than your average shooter. Love it. And it looks great. Lit up or otherwise. I think the lack of popularity BITD was in part due to the misconception that it was a devil worshipper's game. Idiots. If you want to throw religion around, then consider this. The point of the game is to FIGHT AND DESTROY SATAN (of the Hollow) and his minions. Isn't that something we WANT our youth to be doing? Sigh. No other game can make me drop F-bombs like this one, but possessed? Evil? I think not. I'm toying with the idea of a Twin Galaxies submission in the (somewhat distant) future. Currently 606k as of 10/2/2009.

For Starwars....anyone who wasn't alive/aware in the late 70s / early 80s will have a difficult time understanding how HUGE a phenomenon it was. Life was Starwars for many. For the main stream folks you couldn't go a day without hearing or seeing a SW reference in the media at the store or from people you dealt with. Hell, even my Dad (standard western fan type of guy) liked the movie and would talk about it sometimes. It was everywhere. And so was Atari, as we all know. So when Atari came out with a Starwars game and it was *GOOD*...well, it's a no brainer that it would be in every arcade. People lined up to play the game. People I knew went to the Tasty Freeze even when they were broke just to hang out and listen to the attract mode. Really significant game.

Is there a 25" WG6100? If not, then the cockpit *MUST* have the Amplifone. 19" doesn't cut it. I'm not sure I've ever seen a WG6100 vs. Amplifone up close comparison (photos don't count). So I can't comment beyond the size difference.

BTW, what is it that really makes the Amp special? Is it the tube? Or the boardset? I've often thought about reproducing these, but if it's the tube then we're probably SOL.
