So my Tron sounds are acting up. On initial power up after having been off a few hours two things happen:

1. Some sounds are starting to appear in the attract mode.
2. Sounds during game play are messed up, blanking out, static...

After around 3-5 minutes of play or just being on it corrects itself.

My initial thoughts:
R135 is weak
One or both of the AY38910 is going bad.

Note:
There are all new ribbon cables.

Anyone have some ideas?

I hate these problems!

I would leave the game on for some time 15 min to 30 min then shut it off for about 1 min. Turn it back on and see if the issue is still there. This will give you some indication of a connection issue or other.

yes and no

It is definitely making sounds like your Journey but not just the noise. The correct games sounds go in and out along with that exact static.

After 5 mins or so it goes away and the sounds work fine. Even in the channel test all 6 will work one round then not work the second then work again. Really odd.

I get it in the attract mode and sometimes during gameplay. I don't lose sounds during the game. I had cdjump repair my boards about 6 months ago and have new interconnects. If all else fails, you might hit him up for a board repair.

Progress...

Swapped an AY38910 and it now seems fine. Will keep an eye on it but so far so good...

Guess it was weak? Never thought it could be week just live or dead...

intermittent problems are not an easy fix most times. game/sounds will work and suddenly won't or while looking for what is not working, board will suddenly spring to life and make noise that will make you jump. If you are craning around a cab this is very bad. Sound pot was turned ALL of the way up so when sounds come on, you will hear it and it made me jump.

Good job on the repairs and I like to see your real time progress. Keep up the good work.

seems good...

After 24 hours of sitting then turning it on, there were no sound issues. Then after waiting a few hours again, still no sound issues.

I am now confident the replaced sound processor has resolved the issue.

...now back to fixing Q*Bert sound!

sound...

The sound cpu's are the processors. They don't store the sounds. The sound ROM's store the sounds. That said you would have to ask tiptoe if you need the roms programmed. In my case I only needed the cpu.
