Another Sick Ms. Pac-Man. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is my Ms. Pac-man. There are basically 4, very distorted screens displayed at once.

Insert Coin screen:

Here's a game play shot:

The game also plays super fast. See video here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFbfKmDbkTo

There are no hardware hacks on this board that I can see.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Alf

Are all the ROMs properly seated? Have you tried pulling them, gently cleaning the tips with a pencil eraser, and reseating them in place?

Nah, not a rom problem. First verify there are no shorts on the back of the board. Take a good look at all the pins looking for ones that have bent over and are shorting on a trace. Focus most of your attention to the bottom half of the pcb.

LOoooong overdue update. So i replaced all of the chips (3R 3S 2R 2S ) same issue. I'm totally bumming now. :( The machine is completely restored and mint, I have an immaculate G07 in there from chris25810 to replace that stupid Zenith and it's just sitting there... I just want to play!!!!

Well, that speedup problem is certainly on the board somewhere.
The video- I had one that had a doubled up and stretched out screen similar to yours and it was just the horizontal frequency on the monitor was WAY off.

You might be able to pick up another Ms Pac board for $80 or so. Somebody would probably give you $40 for yours in the current condition. It's an option.

I know that working on something so long turns into more than a mission sometimes.

good luck

Kerry

Seeing as you've replaced all the counters, that doesn't leave much left. H-sync generation would be suspect so replace 3N ( 74LS74 ) , no change then replace 3P ( 74LS10 ) .

Does anyone know a good place to get these chips? I got the first batch from mikes arcade and the shipping was 8 X the price of the actual product. HAHA!

Of course it is. It's easy for sellers like me to offer some kind of uniform shipping when shipping things by Priority Mail... but... USPS recently raised their rates AGAIN, and 74xx logic is peanuts in prices.

I charge $4.95 for usps flat rate. I can also do first class in a padded envelope for a couple bucks but cant guarantee the condition when it gets to you. I ship all my IC's in tubes so as long as the package doesnt get ripped.....
Havent had any issues so far.

Really SWEET! I'll get you a list. Thanks!

Take the daughter board off, and stick the Z80 in the socket and see if it plays any better as a pacman. If it's almost exactly the same, that'll eliminate at least the daughterboard. Did you ever change 3N like the site suggested 2 months ago?
